Does anyone know if we'd be likely to lose our ADSL internet connection from the ordering of Fibre to the actual install date?

Those members who were lucky enough to move on to the SBUF trial reported very little down-times.

Since you are already with Sky Broadband Unlimited, it would be a simple case of the BTO Engineer turning up and fitting the new vDSL faceplate and BTO Modem after he's done the work in the cabinet.

No downtime if you are already on Sky ADSL. Well maybe 10 minutes.

      Re: Sky fibre broadband

apparently there is someone on the digital spy forums, saying, that they contacted sky on the subject of fibre optic/fttc, and sky told them that they are now allowing orders for fibre optic broadband in their area(Conventry/Colchester maybe i forgot the area name!) and that they have been given the date when theirs is being setup as the 23rd apr...also doing this takes away the need for a 50 installation fee, as sky told them they are charging 50 installation fee after the 12th april date...SO...anyone who wants try to order now...go
ahead and try...as I DEFINATELY WILL TRY TOMMOROW!

That's exactly what I was told together with getting the same install date! Deja Vu!

The sky fibre team is still a small team, and most of the contact centre agents are with out being rude.. not always upto date.

Sky have been inviting people to join the trial in various areas, and offering a free modem/connection. It is possible that some agents maybe able to tell customers calling if they will be able to get fibre when it launches as the database was updated for fibre enabled areas last week I believe. Which maybe why they are saying certain areas can get sky fibre (all you need is for the exchange to be fibre enabled and to be connected to a live fibre cabinet).

By all means try and let us know how it goes, but until you get a install date dont get too over excited. But you never know this close to lauch they may have started a soft launch.

      Good Luck

I gave it a go this morning and after a few checks said he couldn't give any information as to if my area will be up and running at launch. He also said that it would be the 20th of April when they could release that information which I thought was strange. Might try again and see if I get a different answer.

I also tried this morning and the guy told me that it depends if my exchange was connected. He did a search on his record and found that it was not available and that to register online and when available sky would contact me. I am on the NORTHERN exchange, Birmingham West Midlands (even though BT website states that i am infinity ready)

Try the retentions team. I phoned through a few times but got nowhere so placed an order with Plus net, about a week later i received the "sorry you are leaving us letter" so rang sky back.

The lady i spoke to said she had just been trained so would try and place the order It wasn't completely straight forward as i had to ring Plus net to get them to remove the cease (i think?) on the line and as it was a weekend they said they couldn't (which btw isn't true if you are determined enough ).

Since i placed the order with Sky it has been cancelled and re-ordered (issue between BT and Sky apparently) moving my install date by a week or so but i can't fault the customer service team, they have kept me up to date and rang me back everytime they have said they would.

Disclaimer: i'm not suggesting you should place an order with another provider, just pointing out that the customer service agent said they had just been trained in retentions.
