I doubt that will make much difference to him but what would is if it went down to 3 or 4 meg. In reality for those with Virgin experience will this happen? Also, does tivo and anytime downloads count in the downloads?

So, what would you guys do? Sky tv and broadband ADSL, Sky tv and Virgin Fibre or Virgin TV and Broadband?
First off if this is a new account, then I would start off by saying check out Quidco!

Overall quality of service has to be with sky, but as you pointed out not everywhere is able to get sky fibre (yet). I download a fair bit and for the most, sky has managed fine on my 6-7meg connection. Taking skys LLU adsl package would mean easy migration over to fibre when sky fibre goes live in the area.

Virgin, well Tivo is nice.. but the channels on TV are not great. You can read into the speeds all you want from Virgin, but one thing to point out with Virgin is in their terms and conditions you agree to allow them to snoop on your connected devices. Something I wouldnt be happy with.

Sky Broadband to me offers a quality of service which if you take the unlimted package means you never have to worry about slow downs and how much you have downloaded. Sky are also in a position to invest in the future, something I am not sure Virgin would be able to do.

My in laws have virgin and he's a die hard cable fan and he even says he's sick of virgin at the moment. The only thing that trumps my sky is his downloads are faster only when traffic management isn't kicking in. He's a big downloader, streamer and gamer so he hit's the buffers quiet alot so to be honest with your brother not a big downloader and not needing all out speed at the moment I'd go for sky.

I hope that is not Connect. If it is, tell him to forget it as taking that is the worst thing he could do. Make sure he can get Sky LLU Unlimited.
