A lot of the call centre staff have been kept in the dark over Fibre. This has helped to keep things out of the rumour mill.

Many were not aware of that web page which wen up in Jan 2010.

      Re: Sky fibre broadband

      Hi All,

Recently BT have enabled the area and they have been calling nearly every day to get me to sign up to Infinity.

I had a long discussion with someone in retentions this morning and he has looked into SBUF for me and said he can offer to customers but on doing some checks has said unfortunately it is not available currently.

He mentioned it could be the exchange is not enabled by Sky or lack of slots; the exchange is LWGAR (Garston).

Anyone got any ideas, I really doubt they have all been used as we have Virgin Media available as well in the area and Infinity has only just been made available. Also for info my router connects via MER so suggests the SKY equipment is fairly current and I am on SKY Line Rental and SKY Broadband Unlimited (LLU).

Could it be that Sky's system has not been updated yet following BT enabling the exchange and cabinets to show it is now available??

      Cheers Jason

There are a few things that could cause someone to say that it isn't available for you at the moment. It could be that Sky are only going to roll SBUF out to some areas initially. It could be that the person that you spoke with wasn't allowed to sign you up to SBUF or it could be that not all the exchanges with both FTTC and Sky's LLU equipment have been made ready yet.

Rest assured, SBUF is coming now and you will be able to be connected in due course.

Sky are launching SBUF this Thursday.

      Re: Sky fibre broadband

I can't envisage any offers on the 12th. There will be more orders than they can handle anyway. I would have thought the offers will start in about 2-3 months once the early adopters are all on board and the waiting queue is next to nothing. We'll see...

Yes, me too, not bothered about offers, not trying to skip paying the activation fee or whatever, not going to complain later about getting a (possibly) worse deal than I could in 3 months time, don't really want to move providers (but will do so if SBUF launch is delayed and/or I can't get an order placed) - just want to get a decent improvement to my current download speed with as little further delay as possible!

That was one of the reasons I jumped on vm when 50 came out. I paid more as an early adopter but I had it. At least on 100 I got the activation fee back

Precisely my sentiments. I think the fees are quite fair, you are paying for an engineer visit after all.
