Talk Talk is also only offering 2Mbps up on their "up to 40Mbps" and just about all the other BT partner ISP's offer 2Mbps up on their basic package.

It's the way BT sells their wholesale fibre product, there's 40/2 and 40/10 in "up to 40meg" package and I believe there will be 80/5, 80/15 and 80/20 (possibly 80/30 later on) in the "up to 80 meg" package.

To say Infinity is 40/10 as standard is incorrect, currently Infinity has 2 options to choose from:
      40/2 with 40gb usage for 18 +line rental +25 activation charge
      40/10 Unlimited usage for 26 +line rental
when 80/20 releases on April 10th it will most likely be yet another option/s available at increased costs.

Sky is currently using the base 40/2 BTO package for its trial and possibly for launch as well but that does not mean the higher packages will not be available as well, or instead of, at or sometime after launch, this we will just have to wait and see.
BT are able to offer 10meg upload because its an available BTO FTTC profile and they choose to offer it along with the 2meg upload option, all other ISP's including Sky can offer 10meg upload if they choose to do so.
For Sky tho it could be a case of if they can offer the 10meg upload, or higher when available, without compromising their 'no traffic shaping/management' policy, we will see after launch i guess.

Is there any like for like service to what sky will offer?

Yes the others offer the different FTTC packages with better upload and download and some at a near enough price point but how many offer Unlimited and unrestricted use? To me with BT it seems pointless having 80/20 if it can only give 30meg in peak times.

      Only 30Mb
, not long ago we would have gasped in wonder at such a statement.

Too true. I'm on a lowly 2meg connection at the moment due to the distance I am from the exchange. My fibre install is next week and to be honest if I achieve 30meg I'll be dancing for joy!

I think it would be great if you could get someone to video you dancing a jig and post it up on the Official Friday thread next week

Given the location, maybe a Northumberland clog dance would be more in keeping

So that's dancing a jig, wearing clogs and a hula skirt, to be videos and posted in the Official Friday thread next week?

Do you have any particular favourite tune Hartside?
