Maybe this poll needs to be re-run with a new option ('Migrate to another ISP for a faster FTTC variant')

      Surely "no" covers that

I would love Fibre, But BT are lazy & there is no estimate when FTTC will be available on my exchange, Yet 10 mins down the road FTTC is enabled pffft.

Re: Would you take Sky Fibre?

It isn't lazy. BTO are taking money from BDUK and are installing an entirely new cabling system between the telephone exchange and the green cabinets. They are also updating the cabling between the cabinets to people's homes in many cases as well.

Instead of taking the Coax route used by the cable companies, they have jumped to Fibre tech.

I have no idea how many miles of copper telephone cable exist in the UK as a whole, but it must be huge.

It has taken a long time to install the current network of copper cables, but it will hopefully be a little less time to install the new fibre cabling.

We could add this, 'Migrate to another ISP for a faster FTTC variant for now only, as well as possbily traffic shaped'

No other ISP is offering Fibre tryly unlimited that I know of. Yes the speed is nice to have, but we have coped so well without it before today.

Re: Would you take Sky Fibre?

I was going to, but now I'm not sure as I'm a bit disappointed with the package. I was expecting higher than 2 megabits upload and I'm also not happy that you have to take line rental and sky talk.

I'm probably going to stick with what I have now to be honest. It's good enough. There's not enough benefit in upload speed for me to take up line rental and sky talk.

What upload speed does BT Infinity offer?

Rumours circulating suggest anything from 40/10 being released at the launch, after the Olympics to sometime in the Autumn. Obviously a 40/10 product hasn't materialised yet, but it is possible that Sky will announce something before the end of the month.

Please remember that this is a new product for Sky and I guess that they don't want to make the mistake of other ISPs in the past and find that their backhaul or servers can't cope with the generated traffic.

It very much depends on what you personally do with your connection. I recall the difference I experienced when on Annex M with a 2.3mb upload. At the time this was great for me as I was uploading things to a server that I was helping to run. Since then I have added more needs for streaming media and I suspect that 2mb would not be sufficient to do what I would like.

BT Retail has increased the BT Infinity product to deal with 'up to' 20mb upload speeds for an FTTC connection. FTTP apparently remains at an 15mb upload speed. What you can get at your home will vary. Use the BT Infinity speed checker to find out what you personally can get. As and when Sky launches an 80/20 based product, you should be able to get a similar speed from Sky.

I guess you'd want a side order of the moon on a stick for 1 with the 1 back!?

Re: Would you take Sky Fibre?

Originally voted on this with 'I don't care, happy with my current ISP/Package' because my connection isn't used for anything really bandwidth heavy at all. However, I think I'm going to bite the bullet and move from BT line rental to Sky and go ahead and upgrade in the next few weeks.

      Current stats:

Connection Speed 3072 kbps 896 kbps
      Line Attenuation 61.5db 31.5db
      Noise Margin 6.4db 7.0db

Fibre Estimated Access Line Speed: 36.6 - 36.6 Mbps

Shall certainly be a noticeable increase to say the least!
