With over 90% of the voters in this poll in favour of Sky Fiber i think the Sky sales team and BTO are going to be run off their feet come April 12th

Certainly looks that way, remembering of course, that this poll is open to members, and visitors etc - So not just dependent on people that have signed up to SU as a member.

Gateshead is supposed to be getting Fibre Optic in April, so i'm hoping that i'll be able to get it from Sky sooner than later.

Maybe, but when you remember the amount that have voted represents a bit less than 0.5% of the forum membership, it does not really mean that much.

And it's in the Sky Broadband (Fibre) sub-forum so is perhaps going to have a somewhat biased readership.

Re: Would you take Sky Fibre?

Any poll on this site, and any other forum, is going to be a little prejudiced because of the interests of the group. However if the interest was low, then would you have questioned the result too?

The only fair way would be to hire a research company and get the to call say 1,000 people to see what the interest would be. Sky did do this and some members posted to say that they had been called. Just how many people were contacted I don't know.

Well of course, but that's the point...the interest would never have been low. The type of people that know about SBUF right now and that even bother entering this section of the forum are the type of people who by definition are interested. So while there's no harm in running a poll like this, it doesn't achieve anything in terms of statistics (it does achieve discussion though...which is good!)

Re: Would you take Sky Fibre?

      Discussion is good.

As for interest outside the forum, I guess we shall have to look at the figures when they are published next January, unless Sky can publish something sooner.

As a small point though, 83% is a hefty one-sided interest. Normally any polls aren't so one-sided.

Do remember that whilst all the other providers have been selling FTTC products for around 2 years, there will be many of those customers who may want to jump across to Sky for the improved peak time speeds and unmetered access. So long as Sky can maintain the backhaul and servers, there should be no slowing down of traffic during evenings and weekends.
