      Sky Fibre connection

      Hello again,

further to my post here and as advised by Scubbie I will use this thread to keep everyone updated on the progress of my connection to Sky's new fibre broadband.

I will keep it going after the connection date to let people know of the speed and quality of the service.

EDIT: All connected now. I have merged a few of my posts into this first one keep all the info/pics i have in 1 easy to find place.

      ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Type: Sky Fibre Broadband 40Mb Down/2Mb Up & Sky Talk
      Order date: 2nd February 2012
Kit supply date: next few days
      BTO Engineer Visit/Connection Date: 17th February 2012

      ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      In the box

      1 x Sagemcom F@st 2504N Fibre Router
      1 x black Ethernet (Cat 5e) 1.5m lead
      1 x white Ethernet (Cat 5e) 1.5m lead
      1 x black power adapter 1.5m lead
      1 x Step-by-step set-up CD
1 x Quick set-up guide and keep me handy cards (2)

The ethernet leads both have labels on them that read:

Black Ethernet Cable - Only use me if you want to create a wired connection from you Sky router to you computer

White Ethernet Cable - Plug one end of me into the back of the Openreach modem and the other ends into one of the yellow ports on the back of the Sky router.

      Router Firmware Version: 5.27.1a4N
      ADSL Firmware Version: A2pD030n.d23b
Ip Address Range: xxx.xxx.xxx.2 to xxx.xxx.xxx.254
      Lan Speed: 100Mb/s

I cannot find anywhere in the router settings the username and password so this would suggest that Sky are keeping these hidden as before.

Edit: when connecting the BTO modem to the router you need to use port 1 of the ethernet ports (the closest one to the input for the power), there is no dedicated port.

Thank you. Looking forward to any info, such as what router you get and if possible any pics.

If it is the Sagem 2504N, then much of the pressure will be off . If it is a new model, then any information will be hotly scooped up. One of several previous threads may give you an idea: http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-r...formation.html

      Speed Test(s) for comparison
Looking forward to seeing your progress, you are the first person I am aware (that is not a Sky staff member) of getting this new product.

Just one point you might like to clear up, were you forced to take Sky phone rental to get the fibre service?

      Re: Sky Fibre connection

I do hope they let us get Fibre without needing sky talk. At the moment I'm happy with just Sky TV and BB don't want talk.
