Check the speed again after April 10th, when BT will allow 80/20 speeds

I will give it a go. I'm abit of a geek when it comes to improving speed and connections in the home so very interested in just what my line is capable of.

Lol you and half of this forum. The only way you will ever know what your line can do is when the BT guy is there with his magic tool box and fibre modem

Based on your speed estimate (and comparing it with my own 37down/7up), assuming the checker is already showing the new doubled up profile speeds, it's possible that your cabinet is more than 700 metres away.

If that's the case then I think I no where my CAB is. It's up the road away from my house and exchange. Multiple CABS can be connected to a single fibre CAB. Or maybe I made that up. I'm sure I read it somewhere.

The checker was put back down to showing 40/10. It was only showing 80/20 speeds for a short time.

Still quoting the 'doubled-up speeds' for me, albeit 34/6 (apologies, I know I said 37/7 earlier) - I know when I first started checking I was quoted 'up to 17 down on fibre' and in the last 2 months or so it doubled. I presume the results are now 'capped' at 40/10?

Correct: Your connection would be capped at a maximum of 40/2 or 40/10. These are technically 'up to' speeds. Since most people connected to SBUF to date have been close to the cabinets, no one has apparently got a connection short of this. 12 months ago many would be quoting speeds between 20-35mb/s.

      Hi all

Another lurker, first time post. I never thought I'd get to the point of driving round where I live trying to spot green cabinets but in the last few days after reading all your posts, I am now aware of pretty much all of them in my vicinity!! Where do I send the petrol expenses form to?!!
I think I know which is my nearest cabinet, I live in Crayford, Kent and BT site says we're due to go live at end of March 2012. Only problem is, the cabinet I think we're connected to doesn't have a ventilated bigger brother sitting next to it. My postcode is DA1 3QZ if anyone can check the BT list for my nearest cabinet I'd be extremely grateful. Think this is it from Google street-view

Thanks all for the posts and useful info thus far. Have this thread bookmarked and am currently checking it every day!
