I just got connected this afternoon but my speed has dropped from 37 meg to 27meg in the space of a few hours. I am guilty of switching of the modem very briefly. I hope the speed goes back up!

Remember that you should perform any speed tests over an Ethernet connection. Someone else had a similar speed result but it turned out that they were doing it over the WiFi.

Also ensure that there is nothing else using your connection at the same time.

What does your Router Stats page indicate?

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

My router page says 39999. I am using wireless but 5ghz n wireless. I got 37 meg on the same wireless connection earlier on today. I have also tried connecting wired but as I have a macbook air I have to use a usb-ethernet adaptor but I am sure this can handle 40meg. I have an iMac with gigabit ethernet but I aint lugging it across the house to the router.

      Re: Sky Fibre connection

39,999kbps down & 1,999kbps up is the max you can currently get with SBUF, which is what you have.

Wireless is susceptible to interference from any other device that transmits near to the same frequency.

5GHz is also a weaker signal than 2.4GHz. Both are transmitted at the same strength, but the 5GHz signal drops off quicker.

If you must perform a speed test over WiFi, use it as a guide, not gospel.

Thanks Scubbie, I also read on the BT Infinity guide that speeds can reduce during the first 24 hours.

i know it doesnt matter at the minute as sky product is only 40/2 and i wont be disappointed with that speed after struggling with just over 1mb but would like to think could have faster in future any body any idea thanks
they did say that i could get between 74 and 40mb but a few days after this the fibre team called me and asked that ignore that part of the letter as it was a mistake and that i will only get 40mb as that is the package i am on.....did i not mention this earlier, i cant remember and theres 89 pages to go through!!!!

Ok, I found the problem with my speed drop. In between me getting 37 meg and getting 27 meg I removed my adsl filter from the extension where I have the phone plugged in. I put it back a few minutes ago and voila its back at 37meg. Surely I shouldn't need the filter in any socket.

If done correctly, all ancillary voice extentions should be pre-filtered
