      =========================
      Dear Mr andrewjr

Not long to go now - you'll soon be up and running

We're glad to let you know your Sky Broadband Router has been shipped and should be with you in a couple of days.

But please don't try and set this up until after your Openreach engineer visit. Your broadband activation date was sent to you previously in a letter. Before you set up your router, think about where you are going to place it to get the best signal. If you choose to set up a wired connection, your computer will need to be located near your Sky router, the Openreach modem and power socket. If you prefer a wireless connection, locate your Sky router near your Openreach modem and power socket.
To get your Sky Broadband working, we've sent you:

      A Sky Broadband Wireless Router
Our Sky Broadband Install CD including a free trial of McAfee Security Suite
Your complete, easy-to-follow guide to setting up Sky Broadband
The equipment you need to set-up including any cabling.
We'll be in touch again soon, but you can always track your order at MySky with your username, password and Parcelforce tracking number, which is *****************.

      Thanks again for choosing Sky.

      The Sky Team

      Oh! Please do!

It would be greatly appreciated if you could unpack it nicely and take some photos of the contents for the forum before connecting it up.

Once connected there is some information that would also be greatly appreciated too, such as which make/model/firmware version, also the IP Address range, LAN speed (provided that you have a 1Gbit adaptor) and WiFi details (use inSSIDer to check this please).

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

i was going to. the cd will be used as a coster. i will take some pics and post lengths of the ethernet and power leads.

i need to get into the router anyway to set up my static ip's, reduce the ip address range and open up some ports.

i have a 1Gbit ethernet on my mac and n rated wireless. i will need to use inSSIDer on my desktop as i don't load things like this on my mac.

Well, Sky never phoned back (suprise !).
Spoke to broadband sales and tbh they were clueless. I will stick with BT Infinity and wait for them to contact me with info. Very poor show from a sales team.

The guys at sky had a few issues last week whilst their systems were down. I had the exec office call me back on Friday and they could not get on hardly any systems as they were upgrading. You may be in a call back list...it maybe a long list looking at their facebook and twitter page! it maybe worth you calling them back!

Thanks, I called them back yesterday. Thats what lead me to posting my reply about them being clueless, plus it sounded like the bloke was on a mobile in a train station ! I could hear other operators as well as him.
Sorry if I wasnt very clear in my previous post.

      Re: Sky Fibre connection

If it was a call from someone who is getting people signed up to SBUF, then only that team will know.

From what I have learnt no one else appears to know which department it is or how to contact them.

Sadly this means that you will have to wait for the next call.

The guy on friday (from exec office) told me a handful of people in the retention team are the only people working on Fibre? And that they are contacting people as a part of the training process.

Until things become more open, you are never really sure who to believe both on and offline as sky do seem to say lots of things to pacify customer im sure with the best intention
