    Sky Fibre connection

This is a discussion on Sky Fibre connection within the Sky Broadband (Fibre) Help forums, part of the Sky Broadband help and support category; I have better speed tests on wireless than wired!?!? Then you are the exception to the rule...

Currently Sky appears to be connecting people at 40/2. There doesn't appear to be anyone posting who hasn't got this connection speed at present. so for anyone who is a little further from the cabinet it should be good news, as you said.

It depends on your WiFi and LAN capabilities. I'm running a 1Gbit LAN, with 300mb/s WiFi.
transferring stuff with a 100mb LAN port works at the same speed as it would have previously, but using 1Gbit ports certainly makes a huge difference.

My WiFi works faster than the 100mb LAN, but struggles to match the potential from the 1Gbit LAN on the slowest PC that I have.

No problem, I was getting confused and thought that perhaps Sky had purchased some more IP Address blocks.

You should be able to connect your mobile via the router if it has WiFi. You might notice an improvement on any browsing you do with it too.

my phone is n wireless and thats what i was using for my speedtest using their app.

With regards sky using 80/20 then that would explain the letter from sky stating 70-40 meg down.

      Re: Sky Fibre connection

customer service reps at sky are telling people all sorts about speeds expected on fibre. Whilst it will be great to get 80/20 and sky have staff on trial with the service we have no time scale to when this will happen. As for wireless networks- they are only ever as good as your slowest device I would always suggest speedtest be done via a wired connection for a more reliable and consistent results.

I am glad to see someone else connect to sky fibre, it seems things are going nice and smooooooooooth... and from the sounds of it.... fast!

There is no way Sky will only have 40/2 as an offering.

As they realise, (rather than ponder that people don't want fibre) that people do and are willing to pay for it, they will up the ante.

They are too smart to lose customers to BT et all and will definitely want to poach even more.

I reckon they are just playing dumb at the moment and then wam bam will hit us with the full information.

I am sure that a 80/20 speed boost would soften any price increase in September. My point was, its not if... its about when. Of course Sky could suprise us and launch various packages at launch or they may go with 40/2 for a while. At the moment its all speculation.. Im just happy to see them have a fibre product.. I am trying to hold final judgment until its formally launnched and what the overal end product will be. However I do get a little excited everytime someone gets connected lol
