Ours tended to be numbered in sequence - higher numbers further from the exchange (I assume, in reality, probably in installation sequence). Have a look around your area for cabinets and see if you can find the number on one (ours were marked with a white stencilled number). I don't actually recall seeing a number on the fibre cabinet - but it was stuck only a metre or so away from the older one.

"For those lucky few to be offered Sky Fibre, it may be helpful if you can post

If you were already a sky broadband customer
How long is the lead time to your connection date
What speeds were offered/ and once connected you achieve
If you know, how far away is your Fibre Cabinet

It will be interesting to see how connections differ based on location

Questions Questions Questions... I know but are the chosen ones and it may save you having everyone asking the same thing..

      Thanks in advance!"

      Hi Guys,
      Just for info...

Yes I am a Sky broadband customer and also have my telephone with them
I was contacted yesterday (I had registered my interest..twice , and after agreeing to sign up have a installation date of Feb 29th (leap year).
Speeds intimated 40 download 2 upload, my cabinet is no more than 20 metres away, my exchange a couple of miles away.

There is no charge for modem or installation, i think it was mentioned because I have pre registered...so much info given over the phone from the services guy...he explained every detail involved so it was a lot to take in.

he did also mention something about speeds of 74mb download would be available at "some other time" but did not say when or the cost and I cant remember what upload might be available at "some other time", what I will say is he was a thoroughly nice guy and took the time to explain everything in a clear precise manner....just a pity my brain could not cope with all the info..

I have had confirmation e mails from sky and am eagerly looking forward to the 29th.

      Kind Regards

      Barrie

PS he also mentioned they do look at what forum members have to say on the subject

      Re: Sky Fibre connection

Basically if you have overhead telephone cables, then it is really easy to follow them in the direction of your nearest street cabinet.

If your line goes underground, then your line could go in either direction.

For info., a single green street cabinet will serve many houses. Post codes were allocated to block groups of houses, so a small cul-de-sac may share the same postcode, but a long street with 100 houses will have multiple postcodes associated with it. A green street cabinet may be located at one end of the road and serve multiple cul-de-sacs leading off the street. It may also serve part of one block of houses that have the save post code, with another cabinet serving others.

A cabinet isn't always located in the centre of the homes that it serves. When the GPO originally put them out, the length of the line wasn't such a crucial issue as people didn't have fax machines, let alone ADSL or vDSL connections.

In that case, I live in hope that they take pity on my current 3.5Mbps down speed and give me a call soon!

My line is connected to a fibre cabinet about 300 metres away which is plastered with a big Openreach sticker advertising "Fibre Broadband is here". All I need now is for Sky to bring it round to my house...

      Re: Sky Fibre connection

      interesting post

new customer of sky only afew days old but the exchange is already fibre enabled

if i'm reading this thread correctly the speed is dependent on the distance of the green cabinet theres one not 10 metres away and open reach have recently been doing work on this. At the moment i'm only getting speeds of 3mb with the cabinet being so close will this increase the speed if i move to fibre. I've enrolled on the sky register page as of today.

edit i've found the cabinet number how do i check to see if its fibre enabled. came home to find bt had sent letters informing me that fibre has been enabled on my exchange and i could subscribe.

will this increase the speed if i move to fibre

Most definitely. If you are that close you should get the maximum available speed of 40Mb.

Quick update on the router I received today.

The sticker on the side of the box describes it as a 'PACK F@ST 2504N FIBER SKY'.

The description on the letter inside describes it as a 'Sagem Phase 3 Fibre Router'.

      Cheers

click here and put your phone number into the box further down the page. Its BT Infinity's speed checker as Sky don't have one that shows fibre speeds....yet
