      Depends from your perspective.

From Sky's perspective, it removes one layer of servers and can therefore reduce your times a little. By removing some servers, it reduces the expenditure.

From our perspective, Sky uses a non-standard implementation of MER. This means that standard routers (i.e. non-Sky routers) do not connect over Sky's MER. They can connect via PPPoA though.

Should Sky change the system of connecting, there is a possibility that we could use our own routers on Sky Fibre products. This is something that a lot of members would be interested in.

      Re: Sky Fibre connection

Got my order placed. Install on 25 April. Although the changeover to SVBN has resulted in my attenuation increasing from 36 to 41 and speeds dropping from 9Mb to a definitely capped 2Mb so Sky are looking into the speed issue now. Even if it goes to 6Mb, it'll suffice until the fibre install .

      Re: Sky Fibre connection

They phoned but missed the call. Emailed Sky for a MAC and ended up speaking to a normal CSR who was being trained on fibre so he let me be his first real order. Took a week longer than if I had already got Sky line rental though, but it's all sorted now. And FYI, I wasn't offered it because I had been on the trail list, so if you phone up or email for a MAC stating lack of a fibre service, they may let you sign up now providing the advisor has been trained on SBUF.

Were you able to put an order through for fibre before you had Sky line rental?

The CSR tried but the system wouldn't let him so had to wait for the line rental to become active before placing an order.
