Re: What does the 50 charge cover?

Some people have issues when they try to retain their phone numbers. Others have reported delays between getting the telephone connected to getting BB live.

Some have had their BB & telephone line go live on the same day.

Whether it is an equipment thing or some technical issue to do with migrating between suppliers, hopefully this has been addressed.

As for QOS, personally speaking I have had no complaints since moving to Sky. A friend who also moved across has also had far fewer issues since moving to Sky from BT.

A bonus feature is that the complete itemised telephone bill is also available to download. This is useful in order to keep an eye on teenage sons/daughters or anyone else who happens to use the phone on a regular basis.

If Sky included 0845 calls they would better match the competition imo. I know you can go to 'saynoto0870' but it's nice to not have to find alternative numbers.

Re: What does the 50 charge cover?

Hi, I have just had a phone call from Sky offering me Fibre optic broadband at 20 pcm, with a 35 new faceplate charge and a 50 installation fee. (A bit steep I thought), so put on my best Victor Meldrew tone and after a "discussion" they waived both fees!! (saving to my wallet of 85). So if Sky offer you this deal, start bartering...
Due to fit it on 8th March, I really cannot wait, as i currently live several miles from the exchange and top download speed I ever get is 0.8 Mbps, this is gonna rock (Hopefully... mind you any speed upgrade wil be a bonus).

They are, during the conversation, waiving the fee to all those they contact during this 'trial' period so shouldn't be a need to 'barter'

Wish Sky would contact me already, had fibre active here for months, had about a dozen calls from BT trying to push it and almost succeeding. Waiting for Sky is starting to bite.

I was under the impression that the 50 charge included the faceplate, first report of being asked for another 35.

If this is true its going to put a lot off Sky.

The 35 is for the router.

If that is the case, then I would simple ask to have it in writing that I am allowed to use my own Cable compatible router. If they refused, I am sure that Ofcom or OFT or someone else would be interested.

I thought this was also free? If its not, its a bit naughty of Sky to tie you to a router you have to pay for initially.

I know a replacement N router costs you 35, but surely not when you are taking a new service?

Re: What does the 50 charge cover?

This is something that annoys me with Sky. They never seem to have a specific offer or price, but seem to pick and choose who to give them to. A friend of mine recently rang them because her broadband router died, and they insisted she pay for a new one - this was over the course of several telephone conversations, with different people including the retentions team. Yet two days later when she rang again the lady she spoke to was rather surprised she hadn't been offered a free replacement and had no qualms about sending one out free of charge. If some CS people are able and willing to do that, why isn't it a simple Sky policy - why annoy or chase away some customers, and yet for others they will offer all sorts with no prompting.

As far as I'm concerned, 50 was a bit steep .. if they are already asking for more than that, before even the official launch, then I don't hold out much hope of being able to afford it any time soon.
