      sky are con artists

hi i recenty switched from post office broad band where i got 3.5mb all the time no matter the time of day to sky's unlimited service because my exchange is listed as being unbundled with the adsl2 so speeds of upto 20mb are possible and i was told id get a minimum of 5.5 and that that was a very conservative estimate.

now the truth is very different and ive been getting 1.5 - 3.5mb and its lost connection lots of times.

well 29 days 20+ phone calls and 3 engineer visits later and after all errors on the line are sorted the speeds are still at 3.5mb and as the engineer told me the reason for this is that the speed at the exchange is only 7.5mb and that the exchange is not adsl2 capable at all and after talking to sky again someone eventually slipped up and said the same.

      this is fraud isnt it?

then despite the 30 day satifaction gauranteed cancelation option they wouldnt let me cancel as they claimed it didnt exist.

so if you live in carmarthen and are paying for the 20mb package your being lied to

      Re: sky are con artists

Interesting! The BT Engineer says that there is only ADSL, no ADSL2+ in his exchange eh?

According to SamKnows Sky has it's equipment in your exchange. Sky's LLU IS an ADSL2+ service. Now BT doesn't have 21CN which is it's ADSL2+ service, so you could understand where he is coming from, but your profile indicates that you've selected Sky Unlimited which is only available on the LLU connection.

It is possible that after DLM was first run, you are now capped. So could I ask you to do a couple of things please?

      a. post your stats

      b. plug your router into the test socket and retake the router stats and post them as well

Make sure that you do not have anything else plugged in when you test the master only as follows:

Test socket --> ADSL Micro Filter ---> Grey cable for Router --> Sky Router

If the line has been capped, then I would suggest that you contact Sky to see if they can uncap it and set it up manually or rerun DLM. However, it may be that the exchange has run out of sockets and you've been plugged into BT's equipment and have got Sky Connect instead of Sky Unlimited. This is why it is necessary to see your stats, as well as to make sure that everything is working fine at your end.

As said, Sky have unbundled that exchange but BT haven't - post your stats up and we'll work from there

      Re: sky are con artists

hi everything is running 100% fine now and the speeds were capped and my attempts to get removed made no difference because the speed at the exchange is only 7.5mb dropping to 4 at my local cabinet and then 3.5mb at my house. the bt guy said that if it was to leave the exchange at 20mb like its supposed to that id see a significant increase in speeds.

the sky tech guy also said that id didnt matter how close i lived to the exchange id still only get upto 7.5mb as thats all that was available despite being told that upto 20mb was avialable.

That makes no sense whatsoever - the closer to the exchange you are the faster your BB will be

There are a couple of very important reasons why we have all asked you to post your stats. Without this information a full assessment cannot be made.

If you want to believe rubbish you are told by a BT engineer and a Sky agent about speeds leaving an exchange, that's OK. If you want help, post your stats,

Post your stats from your normal router position and then from the Test socket.

I can tell from your sync rates that you are connected on ADSL2+. However, I think that you might find that your line would perform better on G.DMT (adsl 1) .
