      Exchange capacity for Unlimited

Like many others, I was keen to investigate the six months free option if I signed up for the Unlimited package.

However, although I can get the full phone services, and Sky has an LLU presence at my exchange, I've only been offered the Connect product, which for a number of reasons I'm not interested in.

Does anyone know if this is likely simply just a capacity issue, or is there possibly some other technical explanation?

Also, since Connect is not an option for me, is there any way of being notified automatically, rather than using Sky's online checker every day until the offer expires?

      TIA

Disclaimer: I have contacted Sky by phone and email. The email response was worse than useless, the guy I spoke to on the phone suspected a lack of capacity but couldn't confirm. I also have a thread open on the Sky forums.

It is common for Sky to place new customers on their Connect package when the LLU equipment is full.

I notice that your exchange has been upgraded to handle FTTC. If you have a cabinet near to where you live that has been upgraded, then I would suggest that you keep an eye on Sky and see if they are going to launch a fibre set of products soon.

In the mean time you may want to consider another ISP. There are several who can offer short-term contracts with ADSL or ADSL2+, but FTTC connections are normally for a minimum of 12 months, although some are 18 months.

Pretty much the answer I wanted and indeed expected, thank you.

Only reason for going to Sky for broadband and phone was costs. It would have saved me a lot of money over the next year, so little point in changing ISPs given that I'm already on ADSL2+ with Be.

The plan was to go with Sky Unlimited and phone, then wait and see what they do about FTTC.

You're right, I can get FTTC now, and it would increase my downstream speeds by a factor of seven. However, this was purely a cost saving exercise, so it looks like I'm going to stick or go with BT for FTTC.

I'm guessing there is no way, other than checking regularly, of being notified of capacity at the exchange?

No one can comment yet on how much Sky are likely to charge for their Fibre products. Once launched then we will all have a better idea.

It would be easier staying where you are for now and upgrading to Sky Fibre when it is launched.

Rumours are rumours, and nothing is certain yet. Some sky personnel on this forum have confirmed that an option for Sky Fibre has appeared on their screens (mentioned in December).

I can't give you a launch date. I was guessing all of last year and gave up in September. If I were to guess, then it would be some time in the next 3 months now, but don't quote me please.

It's a similar situation over on Be, too. They've been trialling for a while now, but there's no clue as to when, if, where and what they'll roll out.

I have the exact same problem - I've just moved into the centre of Leeds and I'm stuck on Connect The exchange is definitely enabled for unlimited, so I guess its just a waiting game until Sky can upgrade me.
