Bandwidth / Ping / Online Games Affected By Sky Anytime +

      Hi

I have 2 Sky HD boxes and Sky Anytime + seems to be working well on each of them.

However when both of them are downloading programs they may use all the internet bandwidth avalable.

Do the Sky boxes simply pull down the programs as fast as the ADSL bandwidth will allow?

Do Sky throttle their servers so as not to overload your internet conection?

Is the any way to throttle the maximum speed each box can use?

What is the best way to to get Sky Anytime + and On line games to not interfear with each other?

I have a wife and son who now seem hell bent on filling the hard disks in the Sky Boxes as fast as they can and another son complaining his on line gaming is suffering due to high pings when the Sky boxes are downloading.

      Thanks in Advance.

Welcome to an issue that many ADSL subscribers are now finding.

Streaming video content, whether through a player such as BBC iPlayer or ITV Player or using Anytime+, will eat into your available bandwidth.

In such a situation the only way to manage it with the Sky router is to get people to work together. The QoS controls aren't available on the Sky router firmware to reduce the Anytime+ priority levels.

Hopefully with Sky's new Fibre product this kind of experience will become a thing of the past.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms
