Question Hard drive anytime partition - not used on unlimited BB package

      Hi,
I am awaiting the instalation of my Sky package (BTvision refugee - entertainment and unlimited BB) and I called the help desk today about my MAC code, while on the phone I enquired about the anytime+ use of a partion on hdd for downloading content (i wanted to get a rough idea of how many hours of content I could store). And I was told that as I was on the Unlimited broadband package it would not use any of my hardrive for anytime+... Is that right / doesn't ring true to me !
      Anybody clarify this please ?

      Jim

Re: Hard drive anytime partition - not used on unlimited BB package

There is no partition on the SkyHD box for Anytime+, it goes into your normal partition for recording programs. There is a set partition for Anytime, or Showcase as it is now known, the size of this depends on the box you are getting. A 1.5Tb box reserves 500Gb and a 500Gb reserves 250Gb. There is no way you can use this space for any other purpose.

Note that there is no real 'partition' for Showcase, it is simply space set aside on the disk which is unavailable for personal use.

Anytime content (renamed Showcase when you have Anytime+) is stored in the reserved area, but Anytime+ is stored in the same area reserved for your recordings.

If you want more space available, then there is a process where you can upgrade the hard drive for yourself. This would invalidate the warranty but could allow you more than 5 times the storage space of the DRX890 (500GB model) if you installed a 2TB drive.

Ah brings back memories of the TiVo UK Series 1 - installing bigger HDDs and enhancing the standard software with various "hacks". Happy days!

      Sorry for the late reply.
Ahh so I have been misinformed by Sky
Oh well its no biggy. Don't think i will be cracking the box open yet to upgrade the hard drive.
Even with reserved space I think there will be more available to me than there was with my Vision Box from BT !

      Cheers

I don't know about the most recent release, but many of the older BT Vision boxes were fitted with a 160GB drive.
