      Smile What do sky download

I'm the lucky recipient of a new 1TB box (how I got that past the wife-radar is beyond me).

Now, I read that sky reserve 1/2 Tb of the 1.5Tb disk for their own overnight downloads and I'm curious what they put there other than film and sports - because I have about 5 programs that appear to be "ready to watch".

Is it a bit like the old anytime and over a few days more stuff will be available, or is the ready-to-watch mainly aimed at sports and movies subscribers?

There's an awful lot of rubbish on there, but I have found the occasional gem.

Yes it is just Anytime content that will be recorded.

The content will take a couple of weeks to populate with more programmes and films. It is there for promotional reasons rather than something that it knows you will like.

You have access to record more films & TV programmes on the new drive, but Anytime (not Anytime+) will be recorded automatically on the reserved capacity of the drive.

The are no facilities to allow your own recordings to be placed on the reserved capacity. If you disable Anytime, it will still be reserved.

If you have connected your STB to the Internet, and can download Anytime+ content, this will be recorded in your allocated area and the 'Anytime' content is renamed 'Showcase'.

That's pretty much what I thought.

Shame you can't get the space back or somehow tailor what they download for you.

The best option I can make is for you to consider upgrading your STB further by installing your own 2TB drive.

The result is lots more room to record whatever you want.

At the moment I am finally in the process of taking action to rectify a mistake I made earlier this year and redo my 2TB drive so that it is formatted to 2TB. Currently it is only formatted to 1TB and I had no way of sorting this out at the time.

It's a shame that the Anytime+ programs can't go in the portion thats reserved for Anytime.

Can this now be done with the new HD boxes?

I thought there was an issue with them a while ago.

Interestingly the specs for YouView limit this type of content to 30GB, whereas Sky can take as much as 215GB on a 500GB drive.

As Tom has mentioned (see his link), there is finally a new tool available to help get around the issues with Darwin.

I performed a small test earlier last week and am in the process of sorting out my own 2TB drive right now. I can't say how successful it will be until it has completed, but others have reported success already.
