Hi all. I have got a sky+ HD box and want to make use of anytime+. However due to location I could not have a ethernet cable hard wired into my sky router. I have a old sky router to hand and wanted to know if i could use this to connect my sky+HD box wirelessly to my router?
      Any help gratefully received.

The easiest method for connecting them would be to purchase a pair of homeplugs.

Sky routers cannot be used to create a wireless bridge. One of them would have to be flashed with 3rd party firmware which supports this.

Homeplugs are probably the best bet, or a dedicated wireless bridge like this if these don't suit you. -

It is amazing how many have 'spare' Sky routers

It's getting to the point were it should be added to the script to rule out a router issue since most people have at least one spare router.

Sky do a wireless device to plug into your HD box which will connect to your Sky router specifically so that you can use Anytime+ over wifi. Unless Sky have been particlarly Machiavellian, I can't see any reason why it won't connect to your Netgear router's wifi since according to the setup video it just makes a normal wifi connection to your router.

      ^^^^^^^^^^^

The Sky 'Wireless Connector' costs around 60, a bit more than the many equivalent branded devices.

Some of us have spare routers simply because they're faulty, but are hoarders and they still work to a degree ... just in case the router we replaced it with gives up completely

      Unhappy Re: newby needing help

Thanks for all the help. To be honest I was going to buy a cheap 2nd hand sky router from ebay and use that, but I guess the firmware does not support it. Think I will have to save for the official sky anytime+ bridge at 60 so I don't get any connection issues.

      Re: newby needing help

You could spend the same amount of money of a pair of reasonable HomePlugs.

You say that you can't connect an Ethernet cable to the router where it is, but you haven't indicated as to why.

A pair of HomePlugs would also give you an advantage over the WiFi Media Bridge:

      * WiFi g isn't the best and is notoriously bad for streaming video content (it is rated to WiFi g, same as the router)

      * having the HomePlugs mean that you could plug a 2nd router near the TV and piggyback it onto the main Sky router (useful if your TV, Home Theatre System, Xbox, PS3 or Wii want to access the Internet as well)

Try to ensure that you get a pair that support 100mbps or 200mbps and have a pass-through socket for the mains socket.

Homeplugs will do a far better job and a bit cheaper than Sky's wireless connection.
