^ If you get a new box it can't be a 780. You will probably get the Amstrad DRX-890.

It will be either the Amstrad DRX890 (500GB, 250 available for your recordings). If you opt for the 1TB model (Amstrad DRX895) then it will have 500GB available for your recordings.

The Amstrad DRX895 has 1TB available for recordings and 500GB available for Anytime+. It has a 1.5TB hard-drive.

Thanks guys, will go for it then.Last thing I wanted was one of those 780's. I've been reading a) about picture quality issues, that being the quality isn't as good as the Thomson will I notice much difference with a 1080p telly and b) I would want a wi-fi adaptor for the new box, are these chargeable? and how do I get one?

I have an Amstrad DRX890 and a 40" HD TV. I am very happy with the picture quality, but I can't compare it with the Thomson. Many other members have commented on the difference in picture quality between the two though, particularly SD channels.

Sky has been offering these for free. Generally they charge 60 for one though. If you are able to get one for free, then take it. Otherwise consider alternative choices. The Sky WiFi adaptor is only rated to WiFi g.

Personally I would recommend opting for an Ethernet cable (10m cables are available for less than 5 & 20m under 10 on the Internet) or a pair of HomePlugs (cost from around 35).

If you must go for a WiFi adaptor, the consider an alternative to Sky's media bridge:

Re: Anytime+ Amstrad 780 problem thread...

I sent an email off to Sky CS following several emails from them promising a free wifi connector. I have just paid to upgrade to the 1TB box, but I can't see why this would invalidate their offer - I waited virtually the same time as everyone else AND paid out for an upgrade.

Anyway, I received the following reply:

Thank you for your email about sky anytime+ wireless adapter.

This offer was only if you were to take sky movies 1 and 2, unfortunately as you did not take either of those packages you were not eligible for the free wireless adapter.

I hope this helps with your enquiry.

      Kind regards
I've replied - I would have understood, kinda, if they had said it was an offer specifically for those with the 780 box still, but to claim I'm not eligable because I haven't taken the movies package? I've looked at the small print on both of their original offer emails, and none of them mention this.

Not sure where they got them from but Sky were emailing people who pre-registered for the service and who had a 780 box, that they would get a free wireless adaptor due to the long wait in activating this box.

Re: Anytime+ Amstrad 780 problem thread...

Aye, I got those emails - two of them, several months apart. I'd seen that a few others, who had given up waiting for the 780 to be fixed and upgraded or managed to get a free replacement, had still been able to get their wireless adapter, so I thought it was worth a punt.

Anyway, I sent a reply back to them, asking them to double check, attaching a copy of one of their original emails about the wireless adapter, and I've had a reply:

Thank you for contacting Sky Help Centre.

I am pleased to inform you I have looked into your enquiry and I have issued you with a Free Wireless Connector for our Sky Anytime+ service.

It can take 3-5 days as of monday for this to be received.
      So that's a result

Bit of a pity about the first response I had. I don't understand where the guy got his information from, but he had quite obviously NOT looked at my account and seemed to be unaware of this specific offer. Good job I don't take what Sky CS say as red.
