      Re: Anytime+ Content

If you only take one entertainment mix its not a lot better than the old Anytime.
Plus why is half my HDD still unavailable to me and why does anytime plus download to my partition?

      Re: Anytime+ Content

Sky has expressed it's desire to include BBC, ITV, Ch4 & Ch5 content on it's Anytime+ menus. Currently this is in the hands of the execs for all those companies and copyright issues need to be addressed.

How this is progressing is anyone's guess.

As for the content being limited to your subscription, that is normal sky policy.

The Anytime+ content does download to the same part of your drive that is reserved for recording live broadcasts.

What was called 'Anytime' is renamed 'Showcase'.

      Re: Anytime+ Content

why does anytime plus download to my partition?
Its common sense really. If you record something from the Planner because you want it, it goes into your part of the drive. If you record something from Anytime+ because you want it, why should it be any different. It is not like they were downloading stuff without your permission. The old Anytime is now called Showcase and this is almost exclusively HD if you have an HD box. If you have a standard Sky+ box it is all SD content and is still called Anytime, unless you have one of the latest boxes where Anytime+ is available...

The content is based on your tv subscription package. I can't comment on the others but the beeb recently said that they have no plans to put the iplayer on any other system.

      Re: Anytime+ Content

Of course there are other ways!

You could purchase an Internet ready TV or Home Theatre System.

Or you could get a 3View STB

Or you could get a TV or Home Theatre System that connects to you home network, a PC / Laptop with Windows 7 and stream the content to your TV.

The thing is BSkyB is not the only company interested in getting to to purchase their hardware to view broadcast content. Due to issues over copyright, competition & technical know-how, BSkyB are not able to offer BBC, ITV, Ch4, Ch5 & S4C content on their Anytime+ at the moment.

It would be nice, but then the hard drives can only store so much.

      Re: Anytime+ Content

the terrestial channels are throwing in their lot in with YouView which even after announcing delays is ecpected later this year.

Sky has probably also hurt it's chances by getting content rights by adopting it's restrictions to it's own LLU customers for anytime+.

There is also an awful lot of content providers out there at the moment all running to the table and grabbing VOD deals.

Currently there is Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, LoveFilm (now backed by Amazon), You View, BT Vision, Virgin and Sky and possibly more coming in later.

Sky and Virgin also didn't make many friends trying to stop YouView coming to the market by placing a complaint with Ofcom trying to stifle competition even before the market gets going properly.

To be honest Sky has shouted lots about anytime+ but looking at the numbers I would be very surprised if they have more than 500,000 people actually getting it, given not all HD boxes had the update and that they have to be connected to Sky LLU.

      Re: Anytime+ Content

Considering 1.2mil customers have Sky BB on LLU, then 500,000 is a fair guess.

With 10mil customers, that number would rise considerably once Anytime+ has been rolled out to everyone else, with all the Sky+ HD boxes fixed, and the capable Sky+ boxes on-line too.

I would also hazard a guess that Sky Connect users will be the first to complain about bandwidth issues with Anytime+. Enough issues have already been highlighted on this forum with their level of service.

Many consumers have very little appreciation of how much a single HD film will take to download, in respect of bandwidth and HDD space. All they will be aware is that it takes a long time to download & takes a lots of % space on their drive.

      Re: Anytime+ Content

Sky still have to jump to HD on Anytime+ yet. But HD movies haven't been a problem on my Xbox or PS3 for size or speed of delivery.
