Anytime+ slow downloads
Hi all,
Got bored of waiting for my old Thomson to be updated for Anytime+ so I bought a second hand Pace HD box. I have called Sky and got my card and box paired up and have enabled Anytime+ through the Sky website. All good so far..
I have a 15Mbps Sky Unlimited connection and my Sky box is wired directly to the router with an etherrnet cable but I'm getting really poor download speeds, approx 500kbps.So slowly that I am unable to watch programmes while they are downloading.
I connected the same cable to my Playstation 3 and it reported 10.2Mbps and was able to watch iplayer etc immediately. I'm stumped now.... anyone got any ideas?

Re: Anytime+ slow downloads
Maybe the speed you are getting the files is governed at the other end and Sky are only allowing a maximum bandwidth per person? Either that or at the time their servers were loaded up for that particular file and you were getting a slower download due to the number of people trying to pull the file.

Re: Anytime+ slow downloads
stupid question but are sky using direct servers to supply the anytime plus or are they being cheap and using p2p with a smaller server to act as a seed?
I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!

Re: Anytime+ slow downloads
Definitely not p2p as mine has never uploaded anything (it's cabled, I would see the lights flashing on the network).
From what I've seen, once a certain amount of the film/program has been downloaded, you can then view it, but not before. It isn't quite a live viewing.
Hopefully Anytime+ is proving very popular and Sky will see a need to dedicate more bandwidth to their servers that store the files soon. Certainly with more content being made available and new installs set up with Anytime+ enabled, the number of people aware & able to watch Anytime+ is increasing.
