Sky Anytime plus - thoughts and comments

Well I have my Anytime+ up and working and I have to say that I am not as impressed as I was hoping for.

I used to be with Virgin and enjoyed using their On Demand & Catch-Up service. So I am sort of comparing Sky's service to what Virgin On-Demand gave me.

I am impressed with how many films are avaliable (a lot more than Virgin ever had). But I was hoping that the Anytime+ service would also allow me to watch programs that I had missed, similar to Virgin's Catch Up and what is avaliable on the Sky Player online.

I was also hoping that similar to Virgin, that they would also have program's from BBC, ITV, Channel 4 & Five avaliable.

As it is a new service I think it is a bit pointless comparing it to another than has been up and running for a lot longer. Give it time to evolve and I am sure you will see a similar line up.

I think it's good and really has the potential to be fantastic. There isn't alot there at the minute but I wasn't really expecting there to be. I'm sure they will work on getting more tv shows added soon.

I am not so bothered about the movies but I was looking forward to some of the US Series in boxsets. It seems it will be a slow process though e.g. from Nov 1 Stargate Atlantis Season One. No mention of anything else on the horizon.

I am impressed with the picture quality. It is every bit as good as SD broadcasts and, for sport, maybe even a tad better. I just hope we don't have too long to wait before HD and iPlayer join the party.

I find it irritating that full list view is not available as an option in levels of the menu. I find it very tedious with only 4 boxes at a time to scroll through. I can see this causing increasing problems as content gets added.

      Overall, it's a b+ from me .

I tend to go to the "All" list in each section which give a text only list.

Yeah but it's not available in every section - Showcase for example.

I read elsewhere that Sky's contracts for a lot of Video on Demand programs start January 2011 and that in the new year some of the stuff that is going to be shown on the new Atlantic channel will be able via AnytimePlus so as others have said people just need to be patient (a though ask for some I know!).

I like the list search function, you just start typing letters. Saves messing around with blue buttons and menus like the EPG search.

Found a bug - Pressed R to record Serpico in the background (instead of select) and it started downloading the 2 before it in the list as well.

Re: Sky Anytime plus - thoughts and comments

received my shiny new amstrad 1tb box today (replaced thomson for 149). loving new box-quicker!!!!! anytime plus seems to have lots of content, lenty of movies to sift through. seems a bit of a shock pressing red and going to an empty 'showcase' page, thought it wasnt working til i scrolled across to another option! only thing i find is that after normal anytime where there was less content to go through, it seems to take an age to look at all the things available , and yes i know about the 'all' page. minor gripe (too many programmes lol!), will get used to it over time.

Re: Sky Anytime plus - thoughts and comments

My Anytime+ has disappeared? I upgraded back up to the full Sky package yesterday morning and checked if it was enabled at lunch time and there it was, came home in the evening and it's back to normal Anytime.

      Any thoughts?
