      Master socket giving lower stats

      Hi all

Im at work atm but have time to post, but it means I dont have the exact stats in front of me.

I was enabled with SKY Mid yesterday and I know that Im over 4k from the exchange 3.4k as crow flies

I know its the first night and I think that my line will be going through "settling down period" but was wondering if anyone has come accross this?

I plug into an already fitted by previous owner of house to a BT Adsl 1.0 faceplate with the RJ11 and normal phone socket.

The Sky Netgear v2 router seems to sync at 2100k down and 368k up

      With roughy:

      63.5 Atten up 31.5 down
6db snr (floating up and down sometimes to 2 then 21456789) Weird I assume out of band or something with the high figure.

      19db up

When I take the faceplate off and plug into master socket:

      Sync 1750 ish
      Atten 63.5db 22 down
      Snr 7db ish.

I have done the same on my old Netgear v1 and stats do the same thing ahtough the SNR raised to 10 ish but I think the custom firmware's target snr was at 100 so I lowered it to achieve 8 and connection is about 2100 ish.

I have been reading through as many posts on here and never heard of stats going down when using the master socket..what do you think any ideas?

      Also not clear on following:

Upload on Mid is usually 468k? or is that only for MAX?

I tried forcing the routing to use ADSL2 and it wouldnt connect but would on ADSL although I believe my exchange (Totton in Southampton) states its LLu (I assume means ADSL2?)

Re: Master socket giving lower stats

Differances between sync rates uncer the circumstances you describe are not unknown, are are more oftern than not due to a mucky test socket! do the following.

      (1) remove the BT filter faceplate, check that any telephone sockets, other than the test socket, are dead (no dial tone)

      (2) give the plug of the BT filter faceplate a squirt of WD40, and refit to master socket. You can do the same to the router line plug that goes in the filter.

      (3) You are on MID, ADSL2+ is only availible on MAX

Re: Master socket giving lower stats

Just to add to Brian's comments (he knows a bit about phones so take his advice.

If the ADSL faceplate you have is an old one, there is a good chance that it is not performing properly. They were designed for the old 512kbps broadband, not the high speed available now.

The normal upload for Mid is 416, but this depends on your line. From the figures you have given, yours is very long and not in very good condition.

The Sky routers default to a noise margin of about 6.9dbs. If you are seeing a lower figure than this then your line will be unstable, the new V2 ones seem to hold the connection lower than this, but it depends on how bad your line is. If you are seeing a ridiculously high figure it means that you have a negative value, which the router is incapable of interpreting.

You will have seen from the frequency, or should that be infrequency of posts in this section that it is not well used. You would have been better posting once, in either the router or main broadband section. I am sure if you PM one of the Mods they will move this to a more frequented section.

Ah thanks chaps, I did acutally kinda repost in the other help section but it got closed...
Would think obvious to close perhaps this one. But Im not the mod.

Will try the cleaning suggestion, and to add since the post I have managed to use the UBERGT f/w on my old netgear to lower the SNR to 6.5 ish and seems to sync at around 2500-2600 ish will monitor using DMT Tool tonight for a few hours to make its still stable.

Also haven't tried the test socket since so might do that after the clean, but was trying to get some hours with uptime to allow a stable connection. (I hope )

Re: Master socket giving lower stats

Got home and was still all ok at 2500 ish sync and snr hovering around 6.

Well I did the cleaning process with WD40 last night and cleaned all areas I could see, noticed the ring wire was attached and unplugged that.

I tried sync'ing from the Test socket and got slightly higher results 2100 from the 1850 I was getting but not reach the 2500 I get from the ADSL socket on the front of the faceplate...very strange its lower than through the filter socket.....

So Just to see if its and old socket etc I have ordered a ADSL nation faceplate to see if I can eek out a little more.

I think that after this I will be at the maxium for my line but I suppose its the old trade off - Live in the City and get fast BB and put up with noise/polution/traffic and students running past your apartment at 3am in shopping trolleys like its the grand national or something or sweet quiet bliss in a village and 2.5mb bb...

Just need to check out my gaming performance now as I haven't even tried it yet..must turn interleaving off!
