      CRC errors and LOS

      Hi,

Can anyone tell me if these stats are ok? I have a adsl nation NTE-2005 connected to my BT NTE. There is only one box into the house (ie no extensions).

I have been reading some threads of crc errors and wondering if i can improve this, or is it not too bad for a full days run? I am in a ground floor house, there is a small black box about the size of a cigarette packet high up near the guttering. So from the pole my line goes into this little black box, then runs all the way down the wall into my ground floor. Any advice would be helpful.

      Re: CRC errors and LOS

Your error levels are quite high which is rather surprising if you have a filtered faceplate and no extensions. For example your errored seconds were running at ~30-60% of total seconds for the last three periods.

Are you sure there are no hardwired extensions in the house not in use? How is your digibox connected? It is likely that something in your house is adding noise.

It would help to see your stats with just the router connected directly to the test socket.

      Re: CRC errors and LOS

      Hi,

The only thing i have off the faceplate (ie the phone socket) not the adsl socket, is a telephone and my HD box which ive put a filter and 2-in-1 socket to join both lines together. (the filter is the one that came with the router), as when i connected the phone and digibox using just the phone socket and the 2-in-1, my phone wouldn't work? Is there any other way i could fix the digibox and phone to another combo???

I'll try with just the phone socket faceplate when its late at night as i would have no phone. But any other help would be appreciated.

      Thanks,

      Regards, David.

      Re: CRC errors and LOS

Something sounds a bit odd with your wiring/faceplate/splitter. You shouldn't need to have a microfilter as well as the faceplate before your phone will work. Most likely candidate is the splitter - they tend to be very low quality.

Remove the faceplate and plug the router into the test socket hidden behind it when you run the test. Also, when you have the faceplate off, check the wiring for any obvious problem. Did you fit it?

      Hi,

I didn't fit the BT NTE, a BT engineer fitted it when i ordered my phone line last August. The inside has just 2 wires orange and white coming from the main wire. The main wires connect straight to the test socket, there is no extension or any other wires coming from the main wire there is just 2 coming directly out. All i did was buy the adsl nation NTE-2005 filtered faceplate that directly connects to the test socket. As for why i cannot connect the 2-in-1 (ie the phone cord and digibox cord from the filtered adsl nation socket) is a mystery. I might nip out and buy another 2-in-1 socket just in case there is a problem with this one iv'e got?

PS I did use the test socket a few weeks ago come to think of it, and i had just the same amount or errors. That's one of the reasons i bought the faceplate.

Just come back from the shop. I bought another 2 way adapter, this one works ok without having to use the other filters. So iv'e solved that mystery. Now to watch for errors. I disconnected the phone and hooked up the router to the master socket for the duration i was out, which i'll re-post here (which does'nt look too good for 57 minutes... grrrrr.

      Re: CRC errors and LOS

      Hi all,

Well here are the stats of about 20 hours with just the digibox and phone plugged into a 2 in 1 socket.

I left the pc running without anything plugged in but the router rebooted itself (i have it set to reboot if it drops below 5.5dB) before i went to bed, stuffing up 8 hours of stats up, so i hooked up the phone and HD box again to get these stats. Will try again later in the night without anything plugged in.

BTW is there any options in mossywell's bounce where you can tell it to take snapshots of the detailed stats at certain intervals? Be a good feature actually if it wasn't in there 8)

From the looks of it, does it looks like maybe the phone and digibox might be causing noise??? they are only connected with fairly short cables about 3 feet. Any help will be appreciated.

      Thanks.

      Regards,

      David

      Re: CRC errors and LOS

      The story so far:

      1st set of stats 09/04
      10200kbps/NM 7.8db
      CRCs ~1%/errored seconds ~30-60%

2nd set 09/04 (new splitter and router only)
      12393kbps/NM 6.8db
      CRCs <0.1%/errored seconds <0.1%

3rd set 10/04 (new splitter plus digibox and phone)
      10758kbps/NM 9.6db
      CRCs <0.1%/errored seconds <0.1%

4th set 11/04 (new splitter and router only)
      10446kbps/NM 9.3db
      CRCs <0.1%/errored seconds <0.1%

5th set 11/04 (new splitter, faceplate plus digibox and phone)
      12269kbps/NM 7.1db
      CRCs <0.1%/errored seconds <0.1%

6th set 11/04 (new splitter, plus digibox and phone)
      11847kbps/NM 7.9db
      CRCs <0.1%/errored seconds <0.1%

The only significant difference is between the first set and the second i.e. your old splitter was a problem.

Your connection is now absolutely fine - very good in fact. Relax and enjoy it
