Aol
I got a phone call from a debt recovery agency saying that I owe aol money, I know I paid them up to date. I explained this to the women and told her I cancelled the account and I got a Mac code from them she said could I give her the Mac code that aol gave me so she could write the debt off. My question is why they would need the Mac code and how sensitive is it, is it like giving out a pin number.

Re: Aol
I would say it is not like a PIN number.
You should never share your PIN with anyone,
but you must give your new ISP the MAC code.
When I left AOL last year I also sent them an email cancelling
and received a reply. I have kept the emails.
However, now I have no idea what the MAC code was.
When I cancelled a dial up Biscit/Fast4 account I was forced
to send a recorded post cancellation as they were unresponsive.

Re: Aol
Hi
I done the same I got my mac code a month before I left AOL, I wrote them an email saying was leaving and asked for reply when received answer printed it off just in case, and even phoned the customer service saying that no more payment to be taken from my credit card after the date I put in email.
After transfered to sky had no problems from AOL

Re: Aol
As the Mac code was issued by AOL against your account and used by BT to cease that account, I would say give it to them if they are so hot for it as its no use to anyone anymore but it will be on record as being issued and used.
