Whilst out and about today in the current belt of freezing fog I was amazed to see the condition of some phone lines stretching between the polls.
Ice had formed along the span of wire to the extent it had stretched the wire downwards by as much as 6-12 foot. It almost looked like you could reach up and touch the wire!
If its carrying broadband signals some people are going to be struggling tonight!
My connection was a bit on the slow side late last night and first thing this morning, it seems Ok now so I wonder if it was down to something like this.
If the wire between every pair of poles was stretching by 12', your distance to the exchange would be significantly increased and explain your speed drop. Also the diameter of the cable would contract and data would not have as much room to flow through. Bring on the fibre (NOT FibreOptic)!
Also? Most of the wiring is UNDERGROUND? Only a small amount is actually visible?
Might be underground where you live, but aint round here!
