Can I change Sky+ Box with used Sky+ Box

my sky+ Box is playing up
Can I change it with another used Sky+ Box and would I have to get it activated.

Yes, it would have to be activated. You can try activating the card online by going here-
Activate my channels

If that does not work you will have to call Sky to get the card activated in the new box.
