Re: Does this seem right?
You still have room for improvement. If DLM is still running, then you should expect to attain a connection speed of 12Mb to 14Mb according to the tool on this site.
In the mean time, if you haven't already done so, make the most of your connection by fitting a filtered faceplate and using on;y the short grey ADSL lead supplied with the Sky router.
How do you know if the DLM process has completed or not? Take a look at the WAN Uptime. If your connection was reset during the early hours of the morning, then it is still running.
Re: Does this seem right?
I'm having some strange problems actually, they seem to of gone away but now there back...
Sometimes I loose the internet or it goes really really slow and I try to log on to the router to see if anything is going on or to reset it and it takes ages to load the page for the router and some times it won't load at all unless I turn the router on and off.
Plus I have been getting speeds of like 12kbs and a lot of the time I'm getting around 150kbs.
I unplugged everything earlier and after I put it back in I started getting 600kbs again.
I think I might be still on DLM? Will that cause the erratic speeds?
Re: Does this seem right?
Such dramatic changes in speed can be caused by several potential issues.
The first one to check IMHO would be your telephone line.
Could you plug a corded telephone into your Test Socket, dial '1' and listen carefully for any noise. Specifically you may hear a faint high-pitched hissing noise, but any crackling is a bad sign.
Re: Does this seem right?
Thanks the reply.
I tried putting my phone in the test socket and there wasn't any crackling.
I have phoned sky and they have upped my speed to 12mb which is great.
I still have a weird speed problem though, it starts off fine for an hour or so then the speed gets down to barely anything like 6kbs and then I can't login to the router, it just hangs whilst the page is loading.
Then I power it off and all is fine again full speed etc
I'm guessing the router is faulty, it's the D Link sky router, I'm tempted to get my own N router...
Re: Does this seem right?
I was hoping that you would have found a fault on the line as this would have been simple enough for BTO to repair.
A faulty router or PSU is certainly a possibility.
Rather than run out and get yourself a new router, it there a chance that you could borrow a router from a friend first?
If it is a router which is dieing, then you can either get the new Sagem 2504N from Sky or your own router.
