Got in straight away.
Got in straight away.
Works for me too, Unlimited on SVBN, using OpenDNS servers.
I doubt if it will help, but you could try putting these into your laptop.
Thanks for the all the checks and suggestions - much appreciated!
I'm therefore really stumped! It seems like it's a problem with the router blocking all traffic to one specific site (everything else is accessible) but the router doesn't show as blocking any sites.
One thing, I think that the router has a button on it that restores factory settings (I'm at work at present so can't physically see it) - would it be worth giving that a go?
The DNS in the Sky router is pre-set and all devices connected to it will use the same DNS servers. To overcome this you have to set up the DNS severs on each machine which will then over-ride the router setting. I would try setting the address on one PC and see if it makes a difference.Quote:
The site is actually being blocked on four machines now (2 laptops, 1 desktop and a phone) so I don't think that it's the individual settings on a particular computer.
Resetting the router can sometimes cure blips so it is worth trying if nothing else is working. Remember this will wipe any personal settings you have put in such as passwords and ports forwarding, so back up your settings before you reset, this will help return the router to its previous state without having to do it manually..
Thanks for this - I will give it a try this evening.
Someone else suggested that I run traceroute (How to Use the Traceroute Command) and this gave the following response:
"Unable to resolve target system name rpol.net"
So it seems like the Sky DNS is not able to locate RPoL's registered entries for some reason. Is that something that Sky should be able to fix if I call customer support or do I need to set up the DNS servers as you outlined above?
I would suggest you try manually putting the DNS servers into one PC and see if it works. It only takes a couple of minutes and will help confirm if it is the problem. Remember to reboot your PC after making the changes to ensure they are being applied. You could alternately use the flush DNS command if you are happy using the command prompt.
Just had another thought. Some sites are reluctant to connect to Sky's 2.xxx.xxx.x addresses. Can you check your IP address?
Well I'm on a 2.120.x.x IP address , with the Sky DNS servers & I have no problems connecting or using traceroute.
If you are able to connect to RolePlay onLine! Welcome to RPoL that would rule out that potential problem. Very few servers now are refusing the '2' addresses.
don't know if this matters to anyone but i just clicked that link on my ps3 browser & got:
The page cannot be displayed.
The address you entered may not be correct, or a DNS error may have occurred. (80710102)
Glad I am not the only one.
Wonder what's going on..
hey, i'm just a newbie & thought i'd try the link for a laugh! thing is though, i've been getting 'page cannot be displayed' with a ps3 specific error code all the time since migrating from connect to unlimited (svbn) 2 days ago. i really didn't intend to get into all that on here unless i had to, or until i'd done some ps3 troubleshooting elsewhere. i'm afraid i've been leaning on this forum for support a lot lately & wanted to give a little help back. may have opened a can of worms there. oops.
OK - I have changed the DNS settings on a computer I have admin rights to so that it uses a Public DNS service and that has cleared this problem and I can now access the site that I was failing to access. However I have another computer that I do not have admin rights to (it's my work laptop) and I therefore can't change the connection specific DNS settings on that computer. What I'd therefore like to do is to change the DNS settings on the router but my understanding is that users can't change the DNS settings on Sky routers.
Is this right? Is there any way around this? Is there any way to change the DNS settings on a Sky router as I've been told by the (very helpful) customer support guy I spoke to that this isn't possible?
Or do I need to buy myself a new router? I've also been told that part of the terms and conditions with Sky is that we have to use a Sky router so this doesn't seem like a solution either.
That confirms that the Sky DNS settings are causing the problem. The DNS settings can be changed on the Sagem 2504 by applying Mrmt's firmware, you can find out about it here-
The warnings are standard on any firmware update, I don't think any failures have been reported.
Although the T & Cs say you must use a Sky router, many people use their own with no problem.
Using a Speedtouch 585, can't get graphics fro this site; Free Skype internet calls and cheap calls to phones online - Skype
No problem here. Try a different browser.
Just tried FF and IE9 again both same result. A white page with the links down the left side.
Does this one load -
Skype for Windows - Chat and Video Call your Facebook Friends - Skype
It just gives me the same white page with blue links down one side.
Try emptying your Internet caches and any other Temporary files you have floating around and see if that helps.
I haven't used the Sky servers for years;)
