Wiring advice for best speed/ping.
Hello, I have switched on to sky this week and after a few teething problems with my router firmware it has settled down a bit.
I am now connected at:
Quote:
DownStream Connection Speed 10864 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 945 kbps
VPI 0
VCI 40
And speedtest (the ping was over 100 on the test before):
Router stats:
Quote:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 10864 kbps 945 kbps
Line Attenuation 32.0 dB 18.3 dB
Noise Margin 4.3 dB 14.5 dB
Now, I am looking to get the most out of the connection and really want to improve the ping as I game a lot, so before asking sky to regrade the line and reduce my max delay I want to make sure the wiring on my end is ok.
Currently I have a master socket in the hall (non bt one, a shiny black on) and an extension to the living room (where the router is plugged in) and an extension to the bedroom.
What can I do with these to improve my connection?
Thanks for the help, Bryan.
Re: Wiring advice for best speed/ping.
Apologies, I have just noticed a specific forum for this question. If a mod reads this can they move it for me please.

Your noise margin is very low, if you're still in DLM then your speed will probably go down a bit. What are your stats when you plug the router into the master socket with just the filter and no other extensions or equipment plugged in?

I don't have a NTE5 master, my master just has the main cable in and 2 extensions into the same terminals.
I think I will order a NTE5 from ADSL nation and replace my non-standard one.
Lets say I replace my master socket with:
ADSL Nation LTD.
Then I have 2 extensions - should I replace both of these with a XTF-68 or just the one the router is connected to?
