Are Homeplug adapters universally compatible ?

I am considering buying a pair of Network Homeplugs to compensate for poor wireless performance and I was wondering if I had to stick to one manufacturer or whether all makes are compatible with each other.I'll happily experiment with a pair initially but may not necessarily want to continue with the same manufacturer if I wish to extend the network.

Theres two different incompatible standards. I'd stick with one manufacturer, and the same model from that manufacturer. I personally can recomend Devolo (PC world). I've got the 200Mb/s ones (which is frankly ******, as its 100Mb full duplex), I get a good 70Mb/s in use.
