RF link magic eye picture problem
Hi, hoping I've posted in the right place. I have a basic sky box in the living room with an rf connection to a portable in the kitchen. This was professionally installed and worked fine. However, a few months back we renewed the portable and I plugged the rf lead into the ariel socket and tuned it in. However, although the picture is excellent, sometimes the screen flashes black and refreshes with all the colours distorted (eg bright blue and flaming). Then the picture will return to normal. This can happen repeatedly every few seconds, or it can be okay all evening!
I took the telly back and changed it for another (same make) and it's doing the same thing. The tv is an LG portable LCD by the way.
I tried changing the rf channel but this hasn't helped.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance
Re: RF link magic eye picture problem
Have you tried connecting the aerial without the magic eye? or moving the connection (waggle the plug) to see if you can provoke the problem?
Re: RF link magic eye picture problem
I've tried connecting a portable aerial which isn't a great picture, but doesn't do the flashing colours, so I've assumed that's okay. There isn't an external aerial there, just the lead with the magic eye connector on it.
Re: RF link magic eye picture problem
Then waggle the lead which attaches to the tv aerial socket through the little box (the magic eye connector box) and see if the fault puts in an apperance.
Re: RF link magic eye picture problem
Hi Brian, just tried that but didn't affect the picture. Typical won't do it when you want it to!
Re: RF link magic eye picture problem
Well for a day or two, plug the lead into the aerial socket without the magic eye in place, just to see if the fault dissappears.
You may find that the plug on the lead from the sky box to the magic eye box, will not fit the tv.aerial socket. If this is the case, make sure it is properly screwed on to the magic eye box, and see what happens.
Re: RF link magic eye picture problem
Okay, I'll give that a go. Fingers crossed. Thanks.
Re: RF link magic eye picture problem
Is the red light on the aerial device (where it plugs into the telly) bright red, dim red or non-existant?
It should be bright and anything else may indicate a short on the feed from the Sky box to the telly!

Hi, the red light is on and seems pretty bright. It was bad again this morning and I took a picture (after several attempts!) which I hope I've managed to attach.
Before trying Brian's advice I've hooked up a different telly to see if it still does it.
By the way, the reason I've tried this forum is because both Sky and the tv manufacturer blame each other for their equipment and I've been left in the middle.
Thanks for all your input.
Re: RF link magic eye picture problem
Hi, sorry I have taken so long to come back, but I lost the details of this forum. I took the tv back to the shop and they refused to give me a refund but insisted on a repair. Well, it went back to the repairers and after a couple of weeks I got offfered a refund. I bought a Samsung and it works fine. So it will remain a mystery -- they couldn't tell me what was wrong with the LG set.
Thanks again for your help.
