I can see both sides, and to a degree, VM may have a point. But, its the same for anything. Personally I feel Sky asked a fair price for a quality product. OK I only watch Sky One on a Sunday at 10pm and the occasional Simpson's episode, oh and the adverts every 5 minutes or so, but I think I get a fair deal off Sky for what I pay them.
Sky say they have extra programming content that was to be made available to VM and also I bet Lost etc cost Sky a fair deal to get the rights etc. However Sky have not increased their prices for myself or anyone else that I know of. In fact Sky are saving me £20.00 a month and I get more than I did before.
Money has to come from somewhere for providing what we get, and I suppose Sky saw an oppurtunity to recover some, as they genuinely felt it was worth the extra money.
I bet if Sir Richard said we ain't going to pay £90Million but we will pay you £80Million Sky would have said yes. As that would not be too much of a discount, but didn't they offer some stupid amount like £45Million?
When I buy a car, I do not pay the screen price, I get a discount, as much as I think is fair, then I say yes to the salesman.
Good luck to VM, but its going to cost a lot of money, which as Hugsie said before, someone is going to have to pay, which will be us or the VM customers.
All Virgin Media have to do is ask Sky how much is the least they are prepared to accept and then pay it, problem solved. That will save an awful lot of money instead of just making Lawyers / Barristers richer.

There was the whole 85% (I think) reduction in what Sky were paying for Virgin content though. It seems they were taking with one hand and taking with the other.
Oh, I agree it's better to be safe than sorry - we should get some beer practice in just in case.

Thats not the only reason. Many V+ (TVDrive) users are leaving due to the lack of HD content, which has just been reduced even more.Quote:

Hi all, just throw my 2p worth in here.. Its nothing to do with bad busines deals or sharp practice, Its more about steering the market in the direction where we have to subscribe to two or more suppliers to get the full range of channels and programming.. where both sky and virgin will win while we all loose...
Don't forget that Mr. Murdoch has friends in low places and has had his empire endorsed by both Thatcher and Blair. Personally I doubt if the court case will ever happen and there'll be some agreement behind closed doors. Sky may be better at negotiating but they won't want to be closely scrutinized by anything to do with the MMC. To be fair to Sky (and BSB) they did have to invest a lot of money to build and launch their own satellites. The BBC refused to do the same yet are given an absolute fortune every year for almost no risk whatsoever.
