      UTorrent Killing Connection

I have found that when i run uTorrent after about 10 mins it kills my connection and you cannot display webpages. You cannot even disply the router setup page (192.168.0.1)

You have to turn the router off and on at the wall and the connection comes back on fine.

I have tried a fresh install of uTorrent, but this seems to still keep all my old options etc.

      Any ideas?

Go into the settings and set a maximum upload speed.
Do a speed test to find out what your upload connection is capable of and set the figure to around 70% of that or less, that should solve your problem.

      Re: UTorrent Killing Connection

I don't know if it's related but I had lots of problems with Azureus and downloading torrents on my Sky connection, I'd kick off a download and it'd hit the full speed then get slower and slower until everything was at 0b/s. When I checked my router logs there was hundreds of DOS attacks in there on the port I'd allocated for Azureus! The only way I could get round it was disabling UPnP in my router and in Azureus as well. Now all my downloads are full speed (except Newsgroups) and no DOS attacks are being logged.

      Re: UTorrent Killing Connection

I have done the speed test thing when i set it up and UPNP is also disabled. My problem seems the same as dannyg21, it starts at full speed then gets slower until the connection dies.

could it be anything to do with the ports? i have no idea how to do this though. is there any guides?

A problem which is common for P2P is contrack on your router can't handle the number of connections (after all these are only bears of small brain). Try limiting the number of connections.

      Re: UTorrent Killing Connection

I had this same problem, i'd be interested to see whether it's to do with the number of connections. I ended having to use winscokxpfix as it kept corrupting the winsock connection. I now use bitcomet or azureus instead as these give less problems.

      Re: UTorrent Killing Connection

The best thing I ever did was to buy CfosSpeed from cFosSpeed, faster Internet access with Traffic Shaping for €6 I think it may have gone up to €15 now. It basically manages your upload speed in such a way that your webpages are still VERY responsive. It does however take a few days to calibrate correctly.

I can happily upload at 80+k and still surf fast with this installed.

      http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/view.php?pg=azureus

Perhaps try Azureus or apply the same principles?
