      Limewire

What are people's thoughts on the infamous Limewire?I've spoken to a few people about this site and views seem to vary between 'virus infested hotbed' compared to those who say that dealt with sensibly - no problem.Alternative sites such as Winmx and Ariesmusic have been suggested but I'll be interested to know the general consensus.
My youngest (nearly 15) uses the site most of the time although I have put a limit on the number of songs she can download and also said that if the system starts to stutter then Limewire will get catapulted into space!

Yes Limewire is a hot bed for viruses masquerading as 'valid' files. You need to make sure you have a very good and up to date virus/firewall package to stay relitavely safe.

Bear in mind though that if you are downloading songs/movies etc from Limewire you are technically breaking copyright law!

My advice would be stay away from both Limewire and Winmx they are both nightmares waiting to happen and believe me they happen all to often.

You would be far better off using Usenet and a hell of a lot safer to boot though it does cost a little.

      Moved to the correct forum

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.

I use an old PC for file sharing sites, if the machine gets trashed then it's just a quick reformat.

Limewire Is Just a P2P Client, The files you store are not on any servers of LimeWire. All the things which are shared are going through teh Gnutella Network.

Even though I believe people shouldnt use LimeWire! Its not LimeWire which is a VIRUS its what you download THROUGH it!

With Limewire being so popular, it has attracted the wrong kind of users, meaning users who are deliberately distributing "dirty unsafe" files. All you need is a handful of unexperienced users of P2P who don't scan downloaded files for viruses etc, to start and epidemic.
