should I be worried about hammering my Connection?

      Hi
I am on the Max package for internet, I know this is being touted as one of the few truly "unlimited" but to be honest I've really been taking the pee on the whole downloading by P2P.
My uTorrent is currently loaded with about 50GB+ of stuff I've downloaded in the past 2-3 week alone & to make matters worse I'm now off on sick & know this is going to get even bigger!!

I'm surprised that I've not had any contact from sky about the 'suspicious amount' of traffic that seems to be coming my way lately.

I presume there are other users out there who like to test their claims, but is anyone as bad as me & have they had any comeback off it?
Still unsure about getting SKY+HD or just upgrade the HDD in my SKY+ Box

Re: should I be worried about hammering my Connection?

I saw a post the other day on here were someone had downloaded 1TB of data in a month without being contacted or limited, although I consider this taking the 'p' I'm sure that Sky will contact them if they consider it too much.

According to the T&C's Sky will contact you and give you the option of reducing your data flow if they consider you are impacting their network before they take action. As far as I am aware I have never seen this "limiting" by Sky to anyone on the Max package yet (although they may start inforcing some sort of maximum eventually).

I'm sure you will run out of things to download eventually, I did

Yep, at least till the new respin or update of another new linux distro appears & I've just gotta have a go (although I'll probably never use it full time)

surely though they are making a rod for their own back with this "unlimited" thing, how many other ISP have claimed it then capped it at a later date?

Re: should I be worried about hammering my Connection?

Lot's have claimed it but most didn't have their own equipment or the capacity that Sky have, they seem happy to run this alongside their TV packages and offer it as an incentive more than a profit making ventrue.

For now at least they are happy that they have capacity on Max to let the downloaders continue, as I said that may change in the future but for now happy downloading.

If Sky had to buy the capacity for Max from BT then I suspect we would be limited to similar figures and peak delays like connect users.

Sky have openly said "Fill your boots on Max"

So to sum it up, if you’re a Sky Broadband Max customer you can download as much as you want, whenever you want, at great speeds around the clock and all at a great value price.

So what are you waiting for… get downloading.

Re: should I be worried about hammering my Connection?

To be fair to Sky, I bet the those who do hammer their connection are a lot less than those that don't.

I barely use 3gb a month if that on Max, so my share subsidises others, and others are probably the same. Just don't hammer it on the Marshalls Cross exchange and I am happy.

Or is it possible for Sky to put the "hammerers" onto a separate server and let them live there?
I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!

I remember Plusnet did this, it was nicknamed the Bad Boys pipe and ran slower than dialup at times

Ahhhh - the good old days on Plusnet. Remember them well, of course Plusnet denied everything then though. Hence why I left them.
