has anybody had a letter yet ?
in the press for a few months i have read about the major ISP companies sending out letters to warn there customers against illegal downloads !.
I did wonder if they were/are going to send letters to everyone OR simply to people who have been spied on sufficiently enough to know what they are up to !!

Re: has anybody had a letter yet ?
I had a letter this morning, stating that they had information I had downloaded illegal software and citing one instance with times and date. If Sky are going down this route then it might be that I have to look for another ISP. I don't download a lot of games or music, but do like to download TV shows which are unavailable in the shops or from Sky. I am also annoyed that Sky has quite hapiloly fallen into bed with those shysters from the BPI.

The law is the law. Don't break the law and you won't get any letters or nasty surprises.

Re: has anybody had a letter yet ?
I download tv episodes as well using newsgroups. This uses up all the bandwith. Sky allow you to record programs onto the hard drive, whats the difference? How can they tell that you are engaging in illegal activity?

Re: has anybody had a letter yet ?
they know exactly what websites/newsgroups you have downloaded from and will be monitoring any sites that are known to host copyrighted material.

Re: has anybody had a letter yet ?
Oh, so Sky are monitoring all we access then? What exactly gives them the right to do this? According to the lettter I received they are not, it is the BPI that have brought this to Sky's attention and Sky do not do any monitoring. If Sky are going to monitor all our communications then I for one will be jumping ship to a different ISP.

Re: has anybody had a letter yet ?
Sky can see what IPs etc your traffic is going to but a lot of this monitoring is being done by external groups and then being reported to Sky to make contact with the customer. It isn't Sky tracking your usage, you are being caught out by other people (BPI etc) and they are forcing Sky to chase you.

Re: has anybody had a letter yet ?
Torrent trackers are now being loaded with bogus ip's 1000s of them, the chances of one belonging to the sky ip address block are slim but not imposable.
