      Dish Maintenance Contract Selling

I have been called 3 times today/Saturday by a company called Nationwide trying to sell me a maintenance contract for my satellite dish (which I put in myself anyway!). I am also on the Telephone Preference Service so shouldn't be called anyway. Is Sky giving them info on who to contact?

Have ticked/unticked the box giving Sky permission to give your details away? If not, sign into your MySky page and click the Edit My Profile link. Now click the Marketing Preferences link on the menu bar and tick both boxes.

It is also quite possible you have been 'cold called', as almost half the houses in UK have Sky, there is about a 50% chance that the caller will hit on a Sky user. If you have registered with TPS, you should not be getting these calls and should tell the caller such and advise them that you are reporting them.

Sky's only recommended company is Domestic and General who run Sky Protect, any other company who say they are connected with Sky are lying.

councils are another trouble spot, they have in the past been caught selling details on of council tax payers on CD's to anybody who wanted them.

They are allowed to do it but it makes you wonder when you are pressurised to keep your identity safe nobody else seems to bother.

Another way your details are distributed is through these questionnaires you get when returning from holiday. I don't usually fill them in except when I have a complaint and then I refuse to fill in personal details about whether I have Sky, or Virgin, or when my house insurance is due, or how much I earn. What have these got to do with reporting on a holiday?
