Does NOW TV ADSL still use MAC Encapsulated Routing (MER)?
I've just switched to NOW TV ADSL, I can use PPPoA to connect, but I'd like to switch to MER if it's supported. I've extracted the client ID and vendor ID from Hub Two, it cannot get an IP using DHCP with these settings. I've tried different combinations of VCI 40/38 and encapsulation VCMUX/LLC as well as spoofing the MAC address of the DSL interface. When I had Sky VDSL2, I was able to use MER (transfer mode was PTM which is different from what I use now - ATM for ADSL).
Has NOW TV / Sky stopped using MER for ADSL? Is anyone able to use MER for ADSL?

I could be wrong but I don't think ADSL uses MER only VDSL does. As long as you are connected I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Does NOW TV ADSL still use MAC Encapsulated Routing (MER)?
There're several threads showing people were using MER on ADSL, e.g. https://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-...ettings-2.html
While PPPoA works fine on my line, I'd prefer MER if it's supported because PPP encapsulation requires more processing.

Re: Does NOW TV ADSL still use MAC Encapsulated Routing (MER)?
well other than your setup/firmware may need to send client ids/password in hex or i seem to remember adsl needed your actual extracted password (not just random like we use now on fttc) i'm out of ideas. Some clever bugger will log in eventually i'm sure. I wouldn't worry about the processing required either, how you connect is not going to affect anything noticeable to your connection, ids, firewall, opnvpn for sure, but not how you connect. The routers are designed for all the different methods of connection after all.

Re: Does NOW TV ADSL still use MAC Encapsulated Routing (MER)?
I have everything needed for MER, I have extracted the actual password and converted to hex and put it in OpenWrt, I just repeated what I did for Sky VDSL2 (I used the actual password for VDSL2 not random password), but I've had no luck getting MER to work on ADSL, I don't want to waste time trying different VCI and encapsulation combinations if MER is no longer supported.

I don't know whether Sky ADSL still works with MER but this link https://web.archive.org/web/20140210...b.com/wiki/MER will take you to a page archived from mrmt32's website which lists Sky MER settings for various 3rd party routers. Bear in mind that the information is at least six years old.

Re: Does NOW TV ADSL still use MAC Encapsulated Routing (MER)?
Thanks for the link. I'd already tried VCI40 with VC-Mux as mentioned in the link, (I had tried all 4 combinations of VCI40/38 with VC-Mux/LLC). I then plugged in the NowTV router and saw that it chose PPPoA. I guess Sky/NowTV possibly no longer support MER on ADSL, or that configuration is not supported in my exchange.
