    1. ....contd from 1st PM...

You need excess braid folded back as in the photos, otherwise you will have earthing problems and no satellite signal. Are the F-connectors properly screwed into the F sockets at box and LNB end? Is there any sign of corrosion on the connectors at the LNB??? If pre-existing cable, cut it back and remake the connections.

Check the cable run from box to dish. Are there any kinks or is there chafing anywhere? Has someone accidently cut through it??? It happens.

      4. Can't see any problem with a new dish and LNB unless the dish is hopelessly out of alignment, in which case you'll get zero signal. Have a look at this for some guidance on setting up the dish. I assume you're in the UK, and you are using the correct Sky mini dish for your area. Zone 1 ( 45cm ) for most of England, Zone 2 ( 60cm ) for Northern England and most of Scotland.

    2. Your symptoms could be due to virtually anything.

      Things to do/check:

      1. First off, try another digibox on your set up. The box could have a tuner problem. Alternatively, try your box on a friend's known good set up. It is important to do this as it may save unnecessary effort later in your investigation.

      2. If another box on your set up is OK, your own box is faulty. If yours is OK on someone else's set up, you have a cable/dish alignment fault. Make sure your cables are connected correctly at the LNB end and also at the back of the digibox. Inspect the F-connectors at both ends of the cables and make sure they look like this. In particular there should be around 3mm of exposed centre core to make good contact with the Dish Inputs, and no loose braid making contact with the box's dish inputs.

      /contd on next PM.....

This is a last desperate cry for help!!! I'm not too hot on forums and finding how to post but saw how wonderfully helpful you've been.

My daughter and I moved into to our new place in June. We told Sky and there was an existing satellite in situ. We plugged in the Sky+ box but got the error message 'no signal received'. I've since changed the dish and put up a 'Quad LNB'???? as directed to by a mate. Purchase from a 100% feedback seller on Ebay (about 3,000 sales).

We are still not receiving a signal. In fact under 'Services', 'Signal Test' it's all at what I would call a zero. Nothing tracked. I really want to avoid calling out a Sky Engineer (or trained Installer!!!).

Is there anything you could possibly suggest please. The cries for Hannah Montana grow louder (not my cries!!!!).

      Kind Regards
