Are you sure it was 12 months?
Retention don't have 50% for longer than 10 months on a 12 months contract and even then only for people coming off a 50% or greater discount.

Yep, they did say I had to ring back at the date that my existing 12mths discount ended, but I got them to add a credit to my account to compensate for the final month. Email states: '•10 months and 30 days Viewing Subscription Discounted', so with the credit it's 12mths.

Well I've just done "the dirty deed"* by phone. I was prepared for a possible struggle, but there was none (which was nice). Roll on either 4/1/2016 (as stated by the advisor) or 5/1/2016 (as stated in the confirmation e-mail)!

Anyway it will soon be "So long and thanks for all the fish" from me!

The Humax (BT Retail) DTR-T2110 YouView+ box is up and running to record stuff off terrestrial channels, and a NOW TV 2nd Generation box with a 6 month Entertainment Pass was bagged for 19.00 on Amazon last weekend (Black Friday deal). Sweet...

      Hello speedyrite
I take My 'Hat Off' to you as I said in a previous post you set yourself a limit & when
that is reached you have to be 'Brave' & say goodbye : I am very surprised that Sky
failed to Offer various unrepeatable deals to convince you to stay !! but maybe they
felt it would not work anyway.
I only hope now that when' My limit' is reached which cannot be long if Mr Darroch
continues with his Mission Statement !! of Less for More that I can Be as Brave .....
I am convinced that our requirements can be found at less Cost.

I only have to convince SWMBO now & that will not be Easy...............

      Just a Thought......Have a Good Weekend........

Re: Leaving Sky and all done and dusted before 7 AM!

They asked why I wanted to cancel. I told them I'm switching to NOW TV. The agent asked if there was any point having a look to see if he could do anything to reduce the price. I said "thanks but no point really". I pointed out that I was not calling to cancel in order to get a deal. As I say, it was very cordial. Full marks to the agent who was friendly & efficient, and seemed to appreciate my honesty about the reason for leaving.

NOW TV Entertainment provides 99.9% of what we watch on Sky TV channels at a fraction of the price. Luckily we have superfast broadband so streaming works well for us (we've sampled Sky Movies & Sky Sports via NOW TV and we have been using Netflix for a while).

So the main "loss" is storing recordings on Sky+ (although we mostly download from Catch-Up/On Demand anyway) - but we save a few quid and we're not bound by any contract.

I'm happy to say that Mrs. speedyrite has been consulted at all stages of the plan and is 100% in favour of the change!
