Can you still use/watch hd recordings after cancelling

      Hi everyone,
My wife has cancelled our sky+ hD subscription - it's due to be cut off mid Feb. Fed up of being ripped off and why shouldn't we save 8 quid a month for a year or so are what ever I can get.

So, if I say she's moved out and I join up via one of the numerous deals on the web that gives 25% off or what ever -

Assuming I get a new box etc because she took hers with her..

When the new box comes, can I just use the old box instead as its full of recordings for the children? Can these recordings watched on my new subscription. That's really all I want to know.

Or maybe I can just switch the HDD ???

      Thanks all

Re: Can you still use/watch hd recordings after cancelling

If you do not have a current subscription for the specific channel they you cannot view the contents of any recordings for that channel.

Sky1 HD requires both the basic Sky subscription and a HD subscription. Any recordings of Sky1 HD will not be able to be viewed once the cancellation goes through, even though you still have the basic Sky subscription

Any Free-to-air channels (i.e. BBC1 HD, Cbeebies HD) will be alright.

Free-to-view channels such as ITV2 HD and Channel 5 HD require the HD subscription so will not be able to be watched.

My mistake - We don't pay for any HD. We just get free HD that comes free with our package etc. 23.50 or so. What I mean is if I re subscribe in my name and get a new deal and a new black box , can I just use our old box with all the recordings still on it and put the new subscription card in the old box.
Seams pointless giving 8 a month away.

It is possible to pair the new viewing card with you old STB.

What I would advise is to watch the content on the old box, refraining from recording too much, then pair the viewing card with the new box again and use that.

Re: Can you still use/watch hd recordings after cancelling

We just have loads of films on the old box for the children. I don't want to loose them, not that they well go anywhere. Just be handy to have a new spare bx and save cash to boot.
It is a Sky plus hd box the black one. We had free hd for 6 months then cancelled it several years ago.

You could always use something like ExPVR to copy them across to the new box. Quite a few have done this.

If both are Sky/Amstrad DRX8XX then yes you could just swap the drives but this wouldn't work between series 7 & 8 ie. if one of the boxes has an interactive card slot. Encrypted recordings are also matched to viewing cards so it would not be possible to playback such recordings with a different card to the one used for recording.

      Yes it is possible.

If you think about it though, the existing drive is how old?

I never asked which model STB you have. If you have the DRX890, then all is fine. Many of the older Sky+ HD STBs have smaller hard drives that the current 500GB drive (250GB for the user).

Of course you could always get the 2TB model instead. Sometimes Sky put a good offer on these for a new customer.
