Apple doesn't offer an open system where the user has full and complete control in the same way as Linux or Windows (or others), it's clear you only get to use what they allow from the outset. I would assume it's all covered in their T&C's that you have to accept this to use it. I couldn't be sure as although I have mountain lion in a VM I hate their software with a passion and use it as little as possible.

Re: Is Microsoft about to make Windows FREE?
Really don't agree with that, most of the phones, tablets and computers in the house are apple, including a majority of the home entertainment system, the OS has never actually stopped me achieving what i set out to do, even though some of it was totally impractical, if apple doesn't do the software to achieve it someone else did. For a few years the 27inch iMac was the TV. I have 2 windows systems both 7 and 8.1 and after a few hours normally end up pulling my hair out, had a year running Tv though a windows all in one running windows 7 and WMC and in the end gave up. I can't see Microsoft making future window free as they don't manufacture the hardware in the way apple does, which i assume is how apple intends to recoupe development costs.

Re: Is Microsoft about to make Windows FREE?
MS could probably make a lot of money by offering a cheap upgrade to those still running an official version of XP. But then those who are running XP would have to upgrade their hardware, as Win 8.1 will not run on older CPUs.

Re: Is Microsoft about to make Windows FREE?
They would sell loads more and earn back some respect if they just made it a tenner, plus they wouldn't have to pump millions into "securing" it from the pirates, who usually have it cracked before the first box hits the shelf. Who would bother to use a dodgy copy when it was that cheap? But I forsee that it will be the usual ad-riddled and functionally hobbled crap that most people expect.

Re: Is Microsoft about to make Windows FREE?
Are we talking about a possible free upgrade from Win7 to 8.1 and not for XP users.
