--- Most powerful Graphics card for PCI ---

Hi, I was planning to buy an upgrade for my computer. The Intel integrated graphics does not really work for average gaming

This is where I need help. Unfortunately I cannot buy an AGP or a PCI-Express Graphics card because my Motherboard does not have those slots. Its a 5 year-old PC.

Which is the best graphics card to buy ? I really do not care about the cost, just that I want it to be Nvidia. I took a look at the 5700 FX and the 6200 LE, and the 6200LE is the one I currently have in mind to buy.

However, I just recently found this:

256MB nVidia GeForce 8500GT PCI Graphics Card on eBay, also Graphics Video Cards, Graphics, Video TV Cards, Desktop PC Components, Computing (end time 23-Jul-08 16:00:00 BST)

and was wondering can an 8th Generation Graphics card from Nvidia really be PCI compatible!? I just want to know if this will be compatible with my motherboard / PSU and if I will need to also upgrade the power supply. I have a 300w PSU.

If this is in the wrong forums please tell me.

      Thanks in advance.

Tbh, If you are thinking of spending that sort of money on a pci card I wouldd seriously consider a full upgrade. PCFormat mag ran a feature this month on how to build a DX10 gaming pc for 176, this featured a dual core processor, 2 gig of ram and a pcie graphics card. The pci bus is just not up to major graphics work and the agp that superceded it can no longer cut it. I will scan the article if you wish.

Re: --- Most powerful Graphics card for PCI ---

i really wouldnt bother... the 8500gt is a very low-end card allready, and it will be crippled by the slow bandwidth of pci.

post up the rest of the specs of your pc, it might not be worth getting a new card anyway if the pc is too slow all-round.

Its a lot of money for such a poor card tbo.

from my findings, the best price point for very high spec pc is aroound 300-400, incase you are wondering.

EDIT: post that article up dholdi, i wanna know what they managed to get in a pc that cheap... doubt its that impressive really... but who knows

I have considered a full upgrade, but I dont really want to spend alot of money on a gaming PC. I'd spend like 80 tops.

I just want a graphics card which plays Runescape HD and World of Warcraft smoothly, if that helps.

      PC Specs:

      RAM: 768MB DDr SDRAM
      Processor: P4 2.8Ghz
      HD: 80GB
      Sound: Integrated
      Graphics: Intel 64mb Integrated (grr...)

      DD: DVD/RW +/-
      Hope that helps.

BTW: Devil spawn, are you confirming that the 8500 GT IS compatible with PCI slots? and is it more powerful than the 6200 LE / 5700 GX ?

if thats all you are after, it will be more powerful than the 6200 and 5700, and it will play both games. But for what you get, it really isnt worth 65 if it wasnt on pci.

I would more than likely have a 32mb Riva Tnt 2 PCI you could have. Low spec but PCI and don't laugh if you think it is a poor quality card.

edit: I may even have a 5700fx PCI as well.

assuming world of warcraft supports the 5700fx, id probably be more likely to go with that. The 5700 was fairly good at its time, whereas the 6200 isnt much better than integrated graphics, and the LE means lame edition, aka is even worse than it usually is
