      Sharring broadband

      Hi,
I have sky broadband mid, and get around 6/7 meg download. Is there anyway [software] to reduce the B/B speed to 1 computer say just allow 1meg and the second computer has the remaining 5/6 meg. As I play online games speed is a must.

      Re: Sharring broadband

Not that i'm aware of but there may be something out there. However I think you may be concerned with no reason. Most online games dont need anywhere near the bandwidth that your connection gives you to work correctly. The data packets that a game transmits / receives are quite small, what is important is that these packets are transmited and received quickly so you dont see any lag in the game, hence the lower ping you have is better as this is the time taken or one of these packets to be transmitted / received. Normal browsing etc on one computer would not effect gaming on the other. What would have an effect tho would be p2p sharing programs such as utorrent, limewire and video streaming etc. These programs search for tiny parts of a file from many different users and hence can quickly use up your available bandwidth unless you limit them and video streaming just uses the bandwidth because of the large amount of data needed to be transmited quickly.
My family now know better than to partake of these activities when I'm gaming, as I control the router - if my ping goes up coz they are doing it - YOUR BARRED

      Re: Sharring broadband

I need something like this! Ive got 2 other wired, and one wireless PC hooked up, plus my main rig. I do alot of video streaming and p2p and even with the 14mb connection it slows every other computer to a slow halt! Will have a look at that link! thanks Simon

GPR, could you post your router stats (and change your profile as it says you are on the base package at the moment)
