      mcafee problems

      hi all
thought i would share a problem on my pc and i reckon it was caused by mcafee
ok about 5 weeks ago i put mcafee on my pc [ok call me silly [but it was free] anyhoo 2 days later poor downloads and uploads ,disconnects and router showing good stats [9-12meg but downloads were pants [20kbs]anyhoo after going through various anti virus ,adware etc checks couldnt find anything wrong,4 days ago got into my startup menu [msconfig] and removed mcafee [went to avast]removed mcafee apart from firewall ,ok since then no down time ,no download loss and consistent 8.5 meg on my router and 850 kbps downloading, pings are slightly better 30-40 ms .
i wonder if a lot of problems on sky bb are caused by the free mcafee software sky provided [if anyone who has had the disconects etc and are using mcafee ,try removing it [or disable it and see what happens ]u can use avast or other av temporary [go into msconfig and start up as well as mcafee gets everywhere even when u delete av,spamkiller etc and i hope this may help some peeps problems [or i may just be lucky and sky have sorted something

      Re: mcafee problems

I used to have McAfee, it came free with my PC. As soon as the license ran out i got rid of it because it was causing connection problems ands I'm not a Sky Broadbander.

Also I found that AVG Free was a lot better than McAfee.

Uninstalled mine too last week re-installed my Norton Internet Security now boot up is much quicker and as mentioned speeds seem a lot better. Too bloated that Mcafee me thinks.

      Try ZoneAlarm

Check Point ZoneAlarm - ZoneAlarm FREE Download

      Definitely dump McAfee.
The number of posts that advise this are
      too many to count.

On a Firewall, agreement is not as clear.
Some have posted that using the Firewall in the
Sky router with the Windows Firewall in
      Security Centre is enough.
