High Memory Usage
I have a problem guys, when my computer starts it is very slow and sluggish. I have found out that the svchost.exe file is using in excess of 100,000K of memory. I have scanned for viruses using Kaspersky and can't seem to find any problem. After the computer has been on for a bit the memory usage dies back down to around 50,000K, which I still think is too high. If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them.

I last scanned for viruses on Tuesday and it was the full scan and all. I'm going to run an ad-aware scan and see how that goes.

Well disabling automatic updates seems to have helped matters. Just need to remember and check for updates often.

Do a search for the excellent "Start Up Control Pannel", you can stop any program you want from loading when your PC boots up.

svchost can be limited using your firewall [things like window time update or download manager dont need to be allowed [2 many people just allow svc to do what it wants ] always use the rule wizard on your firewall [try removing svchost ]when it re attempts ur firewall should pick it up and u can either allow or disallow once [try disallow and see if u can still acess internet [u may be suprised to find u can ] so leave that part of svchost refused by ur firewall [u may want ot take a note of the ports and protocols svc is using as well
i used to be paranoid now i know theyre out to get me

Do you need to defrag every few days even if when you click on 'analyse' it reads that the disc doesn't need defragging?
Also when repairing discs do you have to click both boxes in the tools section or only one, depending on which system you're running?
