I'm Phil and new to Sky Q and already thinking I've made a mistake in signing up to it. Having had initial connectivity problems on day one ("Unable to watch TV. .." I now find that I have lost connection from 2tb to my broadband and unable to reconnect; and all it says is check password (done 12 times to no avail).
Been on to tech support - all rebooted and still same. Will try software update tomorrow and see how we get on.

      Hello.
Have recently updated to Sky Fibre and it's all been rather good until I have found out that my remote access to my CCTV system has stopped because it requires a static IP address!

However, having mentioned this [or rather complained about this] on another forum I was directed here from a helpful member.

So here I am. Not sure what I can share with others but you never know.

      Thanks for having me

Please do start a new thread to discuss this more, but your SR102 should be able to handle this.

Essentially there are two options. The first is to use a dynamic DNS service. The second is to get Sky Fibre Pro, but this will only work with IPv4 addresses. IPv6 isn't static.

      Hello all!

I'm geoguy and I'm from Cape Town in South Africa. I hope you guys don't mind me joining your forum.

I have a very keen interest in satellite TV, and in many different satellite TV systems around the world. I've always found Sky UK interesting, especially now with the Sky Q system and stuff like sports in UHD/4K.

Hoping to learn from you guys, and further fuel this obsession, ummm...I mean hobby.

You're more than welcome to join the forum, look around and perhaps contribute where possible. I doubt very much that you'll be able to get much of a reception though unless you have a humongous dish or a link from a dish somewhere in Europe to SA.

Sky are very territorial and aim the broadcast signal at the UK & Ireland. Whist some people in parts of Europe are able to pick up the broadcasts, they need 1.5m-3m dishes, as opposed to the 60cm or 80cm required for the UK.

Of course there are other ways, but you would need some cooperation with someone living in the UK.

The development of Sky Q represents a major change for linear broadcast systems. Whilst many providers have moved to an on-line system, Sky continues to rely on the satellite system. However they have evolved and are making more use of on-line content all the time. Often this means that you can end up downloading content in the background in order to watch something that may have already started, for example.

The menu system or EPG with Sky Q is also quite different to what Sky previously offered. Whilst it is more akin to many other more modern EPGs, it continues to evolve. The next big update from Sky is interesting.
